Antarctica - Ross Sea area on Orion
Apr 17, 06, 2:15 am
We went to the Ross Sea area on Orion (Australia based) in February. Kept meaning to post a report but haven't had enough time.
Please let me know if anyone has any specific questions as I noticed that most people on this board go to the Peninsula area rather than the Ross Sea.

My interest in the Orion is not for a cruise to Antartica, but to the Kimberly (Broome and the Top End) in Australia.
How is the ship?

I spoke to some people on board who'd been to the Kimberleys on Orion. They said she was a little large for some of the areas they tried to visit (think there were some narrow areas they couldn't go into as there wasn't space for her to turn round). They ended up stopping quite far away from places and spending hours in Zodiacs instead.
However they reckoned that it was a luxurious way to get to the Kimberleys if you didn't mind that.
Almost exclusively Antipodeans on board our expedition except for a few Europeans.
If you have any more questions on the ship then PM me as otherwise this thread might be moved from Antarctica!
