Finally leaving a job of 14 years at the end of June and am considering a week here July 1 for some much needed exercise and a general "repositioning" week. I know the spring and fall would be better in terms of weather, but does anyone know how hot it is likely to be here?? I don't mind even very warm, but if it is too hot I will get lazy and not do much. Am hoping to get in gear and get a lot of good exercise but probably won't if the weather is miserably hot. Thanks for any help. (Other comments experience with this place welcome too! This would be the first visit :D )

Since this is a general question about Tecate weather, I'll be moving it to a more appropriate forum (Mexico). There will still be a redirect here so you can find it easily.

Sounds wonderful, BTW.

I've been to Rancho La Puerta four times, always the last week of August. Temperatures can go up into the low 100s at that time, and I'm guessing that July would be at least as hot. Having said that, it cools down a lot at night, and most of the studios are air-conditioned, as are the health centers (ie, spa facilities). The construction of the rooms is such that they manage to stay quite cool.

I love the Ranch, but at the moment I'm not planning on going back this year as I'm PO'ed that they've gotten rid of the summer rates. For a significant discount, it was worth risking temps in the 100s. Don't think it is at the full rate--would rather go another season. I know quite a few "regulars" my week who feel the same way.

It's a great place to go on your own, or in a group--it's very easy to make friends there. There are a lot of very cool, high-powered women, but very little attitude. Everybody just hangs out in their sweaty gym clothes all day long. All different ages, sizes, etc. I went the first year by myself, next three with my mom, and while our first year together was a bit bumpy (my bad temper) it worked out well as we could do completely different activities and just meet up for meals.

If you've got any specific questions, I'm happy to answer them.

Thanks Calcifer. Am thrilled to have someone to get some info from. The Ranchera room single rate is $3075 June - preholiday Dec. A summer discount would be nice, but probably easier not to have when I haven't gotten used to it!.

I am actually interested in going by myself, but also interested in meeting some other high powered women. I would enjoy some amount of company. I usually love to spend a lot of tima alone, but would be interested in talking to some other women I would have things in common with. I do wonder if the summer will just not be that busy and if people will just go another time. I should probably just call them and find out about all this. Iwasn't sure I would get an honest answer about the weather so would be interested in a reply from someone who has been at that time :)

Looking at their website now, my gut feeling is that the summer used to be more booked up by this time, but I could be wrong. I've been there years with low attendance (my 2nd year I think it was only half full and they ended up bringing in the Ranch Board of Directors to fill things up!) and it's still a good experience.

If you're not shy about going up to people at meals and asking to sit with them, I don't think you'll have any problem meeting people. Breakfast and lunch are cafeteria-style, dinner is seated, and at dinner you can choose to join a group table.

The things that would be most difficult to do if it were really hot would be hiking, tennis and water classes, I think (the main pool is not shaded). If any of these is a real priority for you, you might want to think about timing--I think in the cooler seasons they have all sorts of hiking programs, but it comes down to just the pre-breakfast ones in the summer (at that time in the day you'll be fine).

You have to do the Organic Vegetable Garden Breakfast Hike--it's the best breakfast you'll have all week. I also highly recommend Bingo Night! :D When someone recommended it to me my first year, I thought they were on crack, but it's really lots of fun. If you like dance classes, do anything Demetreous or the twins teach.

Thanks again for all of the info. The hike I was most intererested in, any time of the year, is the pre-breakfast one and other than than, yoga and the exercise classes are priorities. It should be fine in July for those things. Thanks for the breakfast hike and bingo tips.

I have been eyeing going here for a while, and I too thought that they were more booked up in the summer. If this is the first year of no summer discount that may well be accounting for fewer people, like yourself, being a bit miffed!
