Can't get any of these to connect. On the main office computer (old), there are thousands of QuickBooks files and lots of music. Need to get most of the QB files to the new main office computer, some to the laptop and sure would like to have some music on the laptop.
Purchased Laplink's FileMover. Tried to hook it up with the enclosed USB AND serial cables. No Connection. Then tried to hook it up through the office network. It will only work on Local Network setting and it worked VERY well (and fast). However, it just copied files to the same computer, so we ran out of disk space. Deleted all those files and now we are back to square one.
We are NOT very computer literate. Our closest tech support is 87 miles away. The guy charges $250.00 call out charge, so needless to say, he doesn't get called unless it is a MAJOR catastrophe.
Anyone out there who can help? Or refer me to a website where I can get tech support? Laplink told me the computers were "maybe" incompatible and NEVER really answered the question why their "knowledge base" has all kinds of info for the "gold cables", but they sent me "silver"??? I just gave up-this computer stuff taxes my brain toooo much.
I really need the laptop, as I travel between our company's three offices every month. AND yes, we could burn all the QB files to disk, then put the data on the new main computer. But what a hassle. Suggestions? Thoughts?
Thanks for your help!!!

Call Laplink tech support on Monday am.
Laplink has been known to drive me nuts but at the end of the day, its hugely beneficial.
Your problem could be as simple as your internet security/anti-virus settings.

Thanks for the reply. However, Laplink has NO tech support phone number, only chat or send them an email and they will get back to you. The last time they told me the computers "may be incompatible"-even I know that is not true. Both Win XP Pro, both running AMD processors. And they are not open until at least Wednesday this week, even for chat. I shut down Zone Alarm Pro, disabled Windows Firewall, shut down Norton and all other things I could think of before I ever started this process. I am at a loss. Could I just take both computers to town, have the tech guy take the hard drive out of the old computer, set it up as a slave to the new computer hd, wipe out Windows on the slave drive and then use brief case to get the files I need to the laptop.
I leave for my NYC office on Tuesday night. I am just sick of having to take 3-4 pounds of paper invoices, when they are all scanned into my admin's computer and entered into QuickBooks. Thanks again for your help.

Do all computers have a USB port? Why not simply go buy an external hard drive and copy the files you want to that, then load them onto the computers as you choose? Or, if you would prefer software to help, Acronis TrueImage would do a great job and allow you to image the drive as needed for backup purposes. Then, restore is a one-shot process that takes little time. Laplink just is not worth the strife and difficulty and hard drives are so very cheap that it's not worth the hassle. The external hard drive also provides for VERY fast backups.

It appears they will be open some hours tomorrow (Monday) and regular hours on Tuesday.
From the LapLink web site
"Due to vacations over the Easter holiday, our chat service will close early on Thursday, Friday, and Monday. And it will not be available over the weekend. Normal hours will resume on Tuesday April 18, 2006"
I will have to admit that I didnt know they no longer had phone support. I guess the last time I needed it, they did. As has been pointed out, LL can be a pain and there are other ways. I am going to migrate from one desk top to another in a few days and I will be copying everything I absolutely need onto an external HDD. I will blissfully leave behind all the carp that has accumulated over the 4 years I've been using the present machine. However, I still do like LL for syncing up my laptop once a week.
