American Express Membership Rewards - Double Points promotion - April through June 2006 (Amex MR)

I know there are a lot of these going on now, but just in case it covers someone who isn't covered under other promotions, here's a link:

www.americanexpress.com/doublepoints70

:)

EDIT: And some people have had problems registering for these promotions in the past - here is some small print:

"Cardmembers who have only a Corporate Card linked to their Membership Rewards account are not eligible to participate."

So if it's a corporate card, it probably can't be registered. And the flyer says it's targeted, but I've never had a problem registering for these.

This appears to be an instance of the promotion discussed in the thread titled "Double MR Points on +$1000 April-Sept 2006" (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542469) . All versions of the promotion are similar URL:

americanexpress.com/doublepointsXY

...where XY is a two digit numeral.

When I tried to register, a response came up that said my account was not eligible for this promotion.

Tried registering my Gold card and was rejected with no explanation except a note to make sure I am using my personal card (which I was since its the only one I have).

As I suspected, its a targeted promo. I called the MR help desk and the very nice rep submitted my card for the Promo. If it takes, it takes, if not, its was a small time investment with a possible big payoff. ;)

Interestingly, I signed up for the same promotion - but I only get the double for charges over $3000 per month. Called Amex and they basically told me too bad - I can't get in the $1000 point promo. I imagine it is because my monthly charges are higher than others who got the 1000 point promo. They want to encourage you to spend more/at least the same on the card than you already do - They probably figure 1000 wouldn't make me do that but 3000 would.

Usually I go up the chain and complain until I get what I want but didn't feel like the hassle today.

Am I the only one who had an offer that included a $10 fee for the bonus??

I paid $10 as well.

I had to call and get a MR rep to manually add my preferred rewards card to the promotion. We'll see if it sticks.

I'm guessing there are two promotions if some of you are having to pay $10 to join.

Thanks for the tip.

If you read this thread...

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=542469

...you will understand that there are far more than "two" versions of this promotion.

Anyone able to confirm being able to enroll in this?

Just signed up at no charge for purchases over $1,000. Thanks for posting this offer, I don't remember getting a mailing.

I got the exact same message.

I have a Gold Rewards Plus card.

The promotion is targetted to specific cardholders. If you did not receive an inviation through the mail your card is probably not eligible. However, there are more than a dozen variants of the promotion. Did you try all of them?

Has anyone with a personal platinum amex or fidelity platinum amex been able to signup for any of the double MR promos? were you targetted or did you just use one of the codes in the thread?

I have a personal AMEX Platinum card and can say that I was targetted and mailed a flyer which offered me double points for purchases over $1000 from April thru September. Of course, the points won't post for quite a while...so no way to verify.

You're one lucky .. :DI have a Personal Platinum Card and received double points over $3,000 for April through June ... but I had cut down my spending on the card from previous levels as of late, especially since Diners Club converted to being a MasterCard.

On a related note, has anyone who was signed up for one of the promos ending in June gotten their points yet? Call me crazy, but I just don't trust AMEX for some reason ...

I haven't gotten my double points yet for the May-June promo. I hate how long AMEX can take crediting points.

Same here, believe its around 12 weeks after the promo ends. I'm in the Jul-Aug promo as well so I'll be looking at Christmas time before all my points roll in. Oh well -- waiting for my 2x points is better then waiting for nothing.

A very true, and very good point. I guess I'm just impatient. Citi has always credited my points/bonus miles as soon as the statement posts. I've been spoiled. :(

I was enrolled in the Mar-Apr promotion. Made a big purchase at the end of April (points for the purchase posted in May) and the bonus points posted about 6-8 weeks later (end of June)

Ouch, they only credit points for purchases made after you enroll? I thought they applied the bonus to all purchases from the promo period. Even if they don't count the $19.5k, double points on something is better than double points on nothing. :)

Overnight two entries labelled "MR 2xpt $8K 6Mo Fee" have been posted to our account. Our offer was double points above $8,000 per month for April through September (I think) for a $10 fee (which I do not think has been billed). I do not know if these are for April and May or two more recent months because the promo is tied to calendar month spending but our billing date is mid month and I have not kept track of the calendar month charges.
