MilesBuzz! - question about boarding a flight from layover point

im interested to see if anyone has ever tried/looked into boarding a flight for only the 2nd leg.

For example, I want to fly from CVG-MCI but its very expensive. But I can get a ticket for cle-mci with a layover in CVG for about 1/2 the price.

Obviously, I would just try boarding in CVG and only have a carry on, but i wondered if anyone has heard of this before. With online check in, and carry on only, I do not see how this could be a problem unless the 2nd leg ticket is only activated after the first one is scanned?

As soon as you don't show up in CLE for the first leg, your entire itinerary will be cancelled. If you show up, you will be required to pay full walk-up fare to get where you're going.

It's been discussed many times. Airlines are very aware of it. It won't work.

Edited to add: What he said :)

Don't do it. Your second leg will be cancelled if you don't take, i.e. physically get onto the first leg!

Specifically, it's called "hidden-city ticketing," and is prohibited by most (if not all) airlines.

Welcome to Flyertalk.

As your question has been answered, and this really has nothing to do with miles or points, I'm going to close it here.
