Amtrak Guest Rewards - How many points for 2 adults, 1 infant roundtrip, 2 zones?

I'm sure similar questions have been asked before, but I cannot for the life of me find an answer. I don't have a guestrewards account yet, but would like to possibly take a train trip with the Mrs. and the little one (<1 yr old). My first question I guess is is there a limit to transfers into Guest Rewards? I see all the mention of the limits going out, but see nothing about transferring in. Second question (assuming there's no limit) is exactly how many points do I need? If I want a sleeper car, and I'm reading the chart correctly on Amtrak's site, I think it would be 20,000 points for the car and 1 pax, 8,000 points for the 2nd pax, and infant is free. That's each way, right? So 56,000 total points for roundtrip? Two zones - travelling from Denver to East Coast. It seems so vague to me as far as how the sleeper car awards work. Thanks in advance.

The sleeper awards include railfare for the rated capacity of the sleeping accomodation chosen. The roommette is rated at 2 and I think the bedroom is rated ar 3. I don't know about how infants are treated.

A sleeper award is good for either 1 or 2 passengers. :D Thus you would only need 1 award (20000 points) for both of you - each way. (And I believe since your child is under 1 there will be no additional charge.)

So a round trip 2 zone trip from Denver to the east coast in a sleeper both ways would cost 40000 points for a roomette/accessible bedroom, or 60000 in a bedroom! :D

You are 100% correct about everything. Even the part about the child, any child under 2 travels free at all times on Amtrak.

Thanks again all for your responses. Now I just need to figure out where/how to get 40,000 points :) Almost half way there with Diners Club points and I could use Hilton points although I think the rate is pretty crappy. Just gotta keep spending money I guess!

Maybe you could sign up for the Midwest Airlines Mastercard for 15,000 sign-up miles and no annual fee the first year and then transfer the miles to Amtrak points.
