Air New Zealand Air Points - discounted business class SFO-NZ in December?

I have a New Zealand trip for 2 planned early to mid-December out of either SFO or LAX, and have enough UA miles for one RT business class ticket on Air NZ (assuming I can find award availability). For the 2nd ticket I'm considering trying to buy a discounted business class ticket. I know Air NZ is selling them for flying right now for around $2800 but I don't know if they also offer such discounts for flying at high season in December (the web site just shows $8000 pricing).
Anyone ever gotten a discounted business class ticket in advance to fly at high season, or know if they are even offered?

In my experience they have never offered them for peak season travel. I am surprised by the $2800 fare, is that through the American NZ website?
Consider buying a one way ex LAX/SFO and one way ex AKL, the price difference is considerable, especially with the now weak NZ$

Where did you find the $2800 fare? It's been around $6000 lately. Also, for December $8000 seems high. $7000 to $7500 max seems more likely and $6500 is avaliable for most days.
