So I have a flat near ONT. Avis' tow truck shows up about two hours later. The guy jacks up the car by the rear bumper, bending it out of shape. I explain all this to Avis LAX when I return it to them. Now I get this bill saying that I am responsible for damage, regardless of fault, and not only do I owe for a new bumper, but also for a new hood and left outside mirror plus loss of use, etc. etc. incurred in the "collision." I was sitting in the vehicle in Park when Avis' tow truck driver did the damage! My own insurance company rep couldn't believe it.

Man, I was renting an Avis car in Portland, Oregon while a renter in Portland, Maine wrecked her car. Avis sent me a bill for $2000 and refused to conduct a conversation with me for weeks on end. It turns out the reservation had gotten the Portlands mixed up, the Avis lot at PWM gave some woman a car with my info in it, then when she hit something they tagged me with the blame (the actual culprit/driver didn't complain obviously).

It took something like two months to straighten out, and I learned two things:

1) Routine Avis rentals usually run great, but as soon as anything goes even a little wrong, you're in hell.

2) There are a lot of functional idiots working at Avis corporate. I mean really, truly, the psychological/dictionary definition of idiot. I was driven half insane trying to make myself understood to these people.

That is so sad to read so things

Recently I had a rental and someone KEYED the car while I was at a basketball game. I have yet to see a bill for it. I keep expecting too

However I made a police report when I notice the marking. I hate to see the bill for that 2006 Impala. the truck and passanger side all keyed

Still being dunned for non-accident. My insurance company has tried to reason with them, showing them their own paperwork saying there was no accident. To no avail. They have hired a collection agengy to ding my credit.

Did you ever get charged? I would think that if they didn't notice when you returned it, there wouldn't be a case.

oh...its not just at corporate. Sometimes you just need to go to the regional office.

the way avis is looking at the flat tire tow truck incident is this...

When you picked up the car, you are responsible until you return the car. Any damage remittance is between you and the other party. Although it was an avis sent truck, you are still responsible for the damage and its up to you to claim it from the tow truck company.

sad but true. The best way to solve this problem is publicly and loud. I would start with a nice call to the local television station. Then a call to Avis' local DM in the ontario area. I believe his name is Rick Kuehner, then to the DM of LAX.

If that doesnt work, keep complaining until you hit Salerno. That man has no paitence for customer service issues. When it gets to him, his issue is "why the heck wasnt it solved before it hit me."

slash and burn.
