I just discovered a dedicated website for "Global Transfers" of Amex cards:
http://www.americanexpress.com/globaltransfers/global_card_transfer_en.shtml
Any experiences?
Does it work smoothly?
Are MR converted 1:1? (unlikely, of course)
What happens if the new country doesn't offer the card you have?

I moved from the US to Europe before this website feature becomes available. My preference was to keep my bills in USD as I still get paid in USD as a temporary expat. I still pay my bills in USD, get all the MR points I am entitled to based on dollars spent (after the appropriate exchange, of course) and all the benefits of the US Amex Plat card.
Bottom line, my experience has been unchanged due to the move, except for the billing address.
I don't know what this global transfer thing is, but I suspect it merely allows you to change your address to one in another country. Would be interested to see if there is actually a difference.
Global Transfer is a program where AMEX moves your account to the new country and tries to help you to find a correct card in that market. Also they will internally help you with making sure that transfer is easy. It is not just an address change. After the transfer you are a customer for different country organization.
I have no personal experience although from this service but that is what I have found out.
I used the Global Transfer to move my Amex card from Israel to the US. Worked very smoothly...

I think it depends which country you are changing to. I tried to use the global transfer here in Dubai, but wasn't that successful i.e. had to supply unnecessary amounts of paperwork. Places like UK, are well equipped to handle transfers.
Good Luck,
