National - Emerald Club Free sin up?

Greetings:

At some time I ran into a "pop up" that offered Emerald Club membership....without the $50.00 fee....can anyone enlighten me or point me in the right direction? :D

I believe Northwest is running a promo now. If you are a WorldPerks member, or decide to join WorldPerks, they are offering a free Emerald Club membership and some promo miles.

I've been getting the Free EC ad as a pop up ad on flyertalk almost every day for the past couple of weeks.

Turner Travel also has a free Emerald memebership on their site. I found this by using the mousesavers.com web page. Deb-Indiana

I have to laugh every time i see that advertisement. A fee to join the Emerald Club??? ...or I've heard of a fee to become Hertz's #1 Gold. They should be paying us to join these clubs! I don't ever remember paying a fee to join either of these clubs. I think it's just a promotional gimmick to lure the infrequent flyer.
