Also, bonus points don't post along with the regular transfer, but long after the close of the bonus period. (This is in marked contrast to past SPG bonuses, where they simply transferred more SPG points.) According to the "Starwood Lurker" on the SPG forum (as well as the T&Cs) it is targetted. :( Unfortunately, there is no registration link to check to see if one is targeted. I'd hate to miss out on this just because my snail or email was lost! http://flyertalk.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5576113&postcount=3 davesfolhr Apr 7, 06, 3:29 pm According to the "Starwood Lurker" on the SPG forum (as well as the T&Cs) it is targetted. :( Unfortunately, there is no registration link to check to see if one is targeted. This would be an excellent use of points for me but I've no idea how to check and see if I was targeted :( newinterest Apr 7, 06, 10:41 pm I was able to transfer the points just by using the link above. I transferred 42000 AMEX points and received 13,939 SPG points. I'll receive the other 6500 points in 14-16 weeks. I have been hesitant to do so without that guarantee. I did try the Priority Club tranfer for just 1000 points just to test the waters and see if there was a confirmation of bonus points--none was given :( I will have to wait a few weeks and see if I get a bonuns :( sdcarver BLI-Flyer Apr 8, 06, 12:37 am Targeted? Terms & Conditions Offer is non-transferable and valid for addressee only. newinterest Apr 8, 06, 4:18 am Yes, I recieved a confirmation by email today. Is this a good deal? I plan to use the points for a weekend at one of category 4 or 5 properties. Would it had been better to just have paid instead of using 42000 AMEX Points and getting approximately 14,000 SPG points in return? Had you used the Amex SPG card instead, you would have earned 42,000 SPG points. mia Apr 8, 06, 9:51 am Not necessarily. The spending required to accumulate 42,000 Membership Rewards points is less than $42,000. The SPG card almost always earns 1 Starpoint per dollar, but Membership Rewards cards typically earn 2 points per dollar on a substantial portion of spending. This is a TERRIBLE deal. Terrible deal or not is assuming you had the spg ax card already. If you do not you have to do something with your current points. I think it is a great deal compared to 1 to 3 ratio currently. I have been waiting hoping on it to come back to 1 to 2. Personally I think one of the best deals is cash and carry points. 4000 points and $60 for a category 4 I believe. Do you have a gold card either Preferred or Rewards plus? I am trying to figure out how to get targeted hmmmnn. sdcarver singlemalt Apr 8, 06, 12:02 pm The spending required to accumulate 42,000 Membership Rewards points is less than $42,000. I'm in month #6 of three consecutive two-month bonuses (they started in November) - three points/$CC for the double stuff, two points for everything else. I hope no one is going for the Hilton transfer. ILUVCITIBANK Apr 8, 06, 4:29 pm I don't think so. Usually there's a 3:2 MR-to-Starpoint transfer bonus that runs once a year. And then there are the bonuses. I'm in month #6 of three consecutive two-month bonuses (they started in November) - three points/$CC for the double stuff, two points for everything else. ...... Singlemalt, could you clarify (re-state) this comment above ? Are these AMEX Membership Reward promos...or Starwood/AMEX promos ? If Starwood/AMEX promos, I knew about the Nov/Dec promo (wasn't targeted, but knew about it)...but have not heard anything about two subsequent promos. I'm all ears. OTOH, I have *never* seen MR bonus promos except occasional REDUCED RATIO conversions like the one w/ starwood. 1:2 reduced ratio conversion is not great, and looks ok only because the normal 1:3 is so baaad. mia Apr 8, 06, 6:20 pm I don't think so. Usually there's a 3:2 MR-to-Starpoint transfer bonus that runs once a year.. It appears the offer linked in message #1 is the 2006 version, but unlike previous years it is targetted and also applies to other hotel programs. I think it would be risky to assume there will be another opportunity to convert Membership Rewards points to Starpoints this year at better than 3:1. And then there are the bonuses. I'm in month #6 of three consecutive two-month bonuses (they started in November) - three points/$CC for the double stuff, two points for everything else... Me too, but the next cycle of Membership Rewards promotions appear less lucrative. It's not possible to give a meaningful answer to the question Is this a good deal? without knowing how much charge volume newinterest used to accumulate 42,000 MR points. It could range from less than $20,000 to $42,000. dennis tamimm Apr 9, 06, 12:57 pm So has anyone 'not targetted' had luck in getting this promo? I called amex yesterday inquiring, however they have no record of this promo in their system and as such cannot offer anything. Any suggestions? lessthanzero Apr 10, 06, 8:37 am I hope no one is going for the Hilton transfer. I was planning to do that. Why shouldn't I? Is there some other promo, or are you referring to it being better with a Hilton branded card? (I just need two nights for my in-laws and think it excessive to get yet another card for that.) christianj Apr 10, 06, 9:21 am I was planning to do that. Why shouldn't I? Singlemalt was saying that because you get more Hilton points if you transfer through Hawaiian Airlines. Ratio is 1:2 through them vs. the promo of 1:1.95. Not really a big difference with the promo but less is less! AMEX is really starting to get on my nerves with these targetted promos. I am putting my Plat. AMEX card in the drawer for a while to see if I start getting some of these in the future. Have been waiting for a SPG transfer promo but evidently only targetted ones this year! lessthanzero Apr 10, 06, 11:36 am Singlemalt was saying that because you get more Hilton points if you transfer through Hawaiian Airlines. Ratio is 1:2 through them vs. the promo of 1:1.95. Wow. sorry for the question from a newbie, but how does the hawaian thing work? Can I just set up an account there without ever flying with them? Are there codes i need to know? Might be better to do it that way than to risk not being eligible for the amex promo. lewinr Apr 10, 06, 11:55 am it is very simple. setup an account with them, transfer your points there, then when you see the points in your account call them and have the points transferred to Hilton. no codes, no special tricks or knowledge needed. mia Apr 10, 06, 12:07 pm Today I received a postcard which I thought was an invitation for this promotion, but it mentioned this page.... http://membershiprewards.com/Lodging_TransferToday.aspx ...which uses the same artwork as the promotional page, but no bonus offer. singlemalt Apr 10, 06, 5:32 pm ...I knew about the Nov/Dec promo (wasn't targeted, but knew about it)...but have not heard anything about two subsequent promos. Also, once you get your HA account set up, it'll be simple to do it in the future. And you won't need to wait for a promo - you'll always get 2:1 (at least until AMEX or HA changes it). harvard4 Apr 12, 06, 4:36 pm where do i find that? tried to redeem. harvard4 Apr 15, 06, 12:32 pm anyone know??? bump. |
