According to the "Starwood Lurker" on the SPG forum (as well as the T&Cs) it is targetted. :(

Unfortunately, there is no registration link to check to see if one is targeted. I'd hate to miss out on this just because my snail or email was lost!

Did you see something on the site or by email confirming the bonus? I have been hesitant to do so without that guarantee.
I did try the Priority Club tranfer for just 1000 points just to test the waters and see if there was a confirmation of bonus points--none was given :( I will have to wait a few weeks and see if I get a bonuns :(

Yes, I recieved a confirmation by email today. Is this a good deal? I plan to use the points for a weekend at one of category 4 or 5 properties.

Terrible deal or not is assuming you had the spg ax card already. If you do not you have to do something with your current points. I think it is a great deal compared to 1 to 3 ratio currently. I have been waiting hoping on it to come back to 1 to 2. Personally I think one of the best deals is cash and carry points. 4000 points and $60 for a category 4 I believe. Do you have a gold card either Preferred or Rewards plus? I am trying to figure out how to get targeted hmmmnn.

Singlemalt, could you clarify (re-state) this comment above ? Are these AMEX Membership Reward promos...or Starwood/AMEX promos ? If Starwood/AMEX promos, I knew about the Nov/Dec promo (wasn't targeted, but knew about it)...but have not heard anything about two subsequent promos. I'm all ears.

OTOH, I have *never* seen MR bonus promos except occasional REDUCED RATIO conversions like the one w/ starwood. 1:2 reduced ratio conversion is not great, and looks ok only because the normal 1:3 is so baaad.

It appears the offer linked in message #1 is the 2006 version, but unlike previous years it is targetted and also applies to other hotel programs. I think it would be risky to assume there will be another opportunity to convert Membership Rewards points to Starpoints this year at better than 3:1.

Me too, but the next cycle of Membership Rewards promotions appear less lucrative. It's not possible to give a meaningful answer to the question Is this a good deal? without knowing how much charge volume newinterest used to accumulate 42,000 MR points. It could range from less than $20,000 to $42,000.

So has anyone 'not targetted' had luck in getting this promo? I called amex yesterday inquiring, however they have no record of this promo in their system and as such cannot offer anything. Any suggestions?

AMEX is really starting to get on my nerves with these targetted promos. I am putting my Plat. AMEX card in the drawer for a while to see if I start getting some of these in the future. Have been waiting for a SPG transfer promo but evidently only targetted ones this year!

Wow. sorry for the question from a newbie, but how does the hawaian thing work? Can I just set up an account there without ever flying with them? Are there codes i need to know? Might be better to do it that way than to risk not being eligible for the amex promo.

it is very simple. setup an account with them, transfer your points there, then when you see the points in your account call them and have the points transferred to Hilton. no codes, no special tricks or knowledge needed.

Also, once you get your HA account set up, it'll be simple to do it in the future. And you won't need to wait for a promo - you'll always get 2:1 (at least until AMEX or HA changes it).
