Been there, tried that... My Amex was issued, but just wasn't with me one time. I begged and begged - but nothing. I even called the Platinum Service Center and the kind rep' was willing to confirm over the phone to the girl in the PC that I am holding an Amex Platinum, but the girl said their policy forbids them from doing so. Amex's rep' even offered that I pay the one-time fee for entering the PC and that Amex will waive that charge on my card, but the girl at the PC wouldn't accept my card # without swiping the card itself.

Bottom line - either pay the one-time fee for entering the PC, or try to find someone that will get u in as his guest (there's a thread just for that).

We were traveling to Europe and I did not bring my Platinum card with me....at the WorldPerks Club I was able to get the lovely attendant to call Platinum services where I provided my card number, exp. date, billing info. and name on card......Viola!

Obviously I was fortunate to have a willing attendant and that I have memorized my cc #.

Yeah, well - the attendant showed me written instructions about not accepting such info over the phone, but then again - regardless, she wasn't so nice. I just reminded that I had a coupon with me that I tried to use before trying with my Amex #, and that coupon entitled me and a guest to enter the PC. Apparently (also showed me in writing), although it didn't have any expiration on it - CO decided to revoke that type of coupon. I tried explaining to her that I wasn't aware that it was revoked, so what does she do??? Tear it infront of my eyes (!), and say "Sorry, there's nothing I can do about that".

Yes, my card is with me since then...

I'm guessing that the main reason that they won't let you in without the card is that the swipe generates revenue for the club (~US$14, depending on the airline, I believe). So no swipe = no $$ for the airline = no admission.

As for the non-expiring coupons, they stopped issuing them around 2002 and stopped accepting them late 2004, I believe. The issue was that people started duplicating them at home for free admission into the club, or so the story goes. I had a few that I trashed, but mostly because I got my PLT AX card and didn't need them any more.
