I got a fairly reasonable quote for Dollar, mid size car, at $15 per day from LAX.
Have never used Dollar before. But I have heard people on this board complaining occasional overcharged for insurance and other stuff they did not sign up.
Anyone has experienece with the LAX counter? Are they friendlier and not so high pressured? Are the bills correct? :)
ANy comments help.
Thanks.

My bill was accurate and I don't take any insurance. The Dollar Express line was off to the side and avoided about 20 people lined up. They had Jeep Commanders in the SUV line. I liked that.

Dollar LAX is one of their better stations. Very efficient and fast; no unexpected charges.

I will never go back to Dollar at LAX. First, it took me 7 months to get the FF miles credited out them - even though I am an express member, second, they gave me a car 3/4 full and when I called them on it, they told me I would need to go back inside (and stand in the line again - and being late already, this was not an option), long line to return the car. No way, no how. Whomever runs this location is a moron and an .... Never again, Dollar at LAX.

Arrived @430PM on a Saturday (04-01-06) for a weekly "midsize" rental ($108 weekly rate, $117 all-in). No lines inside, but obviously they had been busy. Everyone was getting complimentary upgrades. I whizzed through Dollar Express and was met by an employee right outside the door who was stamping "COMPLIMENTARY UPGRADE" on everyone's rental agreement as they departed. The Fullsize area was filled with huge boat-like sedans (no thanks, not in LA).

At Dollar LAX, you get to select your car and the midsize row was filled with fullsize and specialty cars. I chose a Jeep Liberty with 2000 miles. It got lousy mileage (less than 18 MPG) but it was nice.

Upon return one week later (also @4PM), the place was a madhouse. The main checkin line was filled with families (screaming bratty children everywhere!). A several minute delay outside waiting for a Return Agent had caused me to go over my one-week time (by 3 minutes), so I waited in the Return Line since I had 4 hours before my flight. The wait was about 8-10 minutes, but the agent quickly removed the additional hourly charge. The regular check-in line had barely moved during this time.

The Dollar Express line barely ever had a wait.

So, Rule #1 when renting from Dollar: JOIN DOLLAR EXPRESS. It will make your life soooo much easier. Rule #2 when renting from Dollar: NO GRACE PERIOD (one minute late, extra hour charge).

As for the LAX location, if you aren't a member of Dollar Express, you should expect delays. Selecting your own vehicle is a plus, too.

Just rented a new (2000 miles) Dodge Charger for $22/day.

Bus was curbside when I left the terminal. Someone beat me off the bus at the Dollar location, so I had to wait about 3 minutes to get served at the counter. (Dollar Express)

Returned the car wthout a hitch...total $49.

I'll use again at LAX.

UPDATE: Got my AA miles same week as rental.

Sounds like Dollar @ LAX....out to screw you....3 minutes - and it was Dollar dinking around...how many customers take the time to go inside? very few, but this is the way the LAX location treats you. The manager at this location needs to get some ethics....

I rented Dollar at LAX a couple of weeks back and had a great rental!! Got a Chry 300 for $15.99 per day. No pressure with the rental at all. Of course I now take the LDW (a rental car got damaged in hotel parking lot) and AMX and insurance left me holding the bag.
^ DOLLAR AT LAX WAS GREAT! WILL NOT RENT FROM ANOTHER COMPAY AT LAX!

Rented a minivan for a week this April. No complaints, except the garage arrangement can make it almost impossible to get out between all the parked cars.
