I am traveling LAX-BKK . I need to be in BKK by midday april 3rd . I have an I fare class ticket . I had to make plans last minute , and right now I have March 31 CX 885 11:25 am , which is at least 24hrs earlier than I would like to leave . I Preferbly want same flight 885 next day or 883 or 881 ,april 1st.
Do I have any chance of I fare class opening up ?? 883 seems to have more seats for sale ? am i right , and how likely is this of happening ?
I am not that familar with how fare classes come and go on CX ( yield management) and appreciate any help.

I've never seen I class to be opened up closer to flight time, no matter how many unsold seats there are. It seems that I class is allocated based on a quarterly marketing plan, and not reallocated daily. However I have no inside info about how CX operates, just my observations over the years (but I have never managed to buy an I ticket).

Perhaps if you put yourself on waitlist... that might help things along.

I have been waitlisted numerous times on I class and confirmed. This works almost always for me when I see C9 D9 availability. My agents in India, CMB, etc. are able to get the seats confirmed. Also, if you are a Marco Polo member or an elite OW, calling CX and asking seems to help. CX seems to do a lot of things based on manual requests as opposed to Web or system driven decisions.

I agree with the above. I recently had a very similar situation holding I class seats MEL-HKG a day earlier than we wanted to travel. We waitlisted, with my agent and myself chasing the waitlist regularly. About 5 days beforehand the waitlist cleared.
I have another of these situations coming up next month, so will use the same strategy.
Good luck.

I called back , and gave my status OW emerald and I was scheduled on #885 , but for personal scheduling I had to go back to previous day #885 . I have to be In HKG by 6PM on the 2nd. I am currently on waitlist for #883 and *#881 leaving Friday night 31st and early Sat am . But being Friday night , I am not as optimistic. less seats for sale , or basically none .
