I'm trying to stay at one of the Starwoods in Bangkok and curious whether anyone has or knows of good corporate negotiated rates? Rates seem to have gone up a lot in BKK since last year.

Plenty of sites exist for booking BKK hotels at good prices. Try www.asiahotels.com for starters; you could also look at www.asiarooms.com. If you're not wedded to SPG, you can get a great deal at a beautiful property. In a city as full of 5-star hotels as BKK, why limit yourself to SPG? tfong007 Mar 25, 06, 5:56 pm Extremley well put. ^ leiterk Mar 26, 06, 12:19 am . If you go on other forums such as Marriott, all the car rentals, etc., there are many codes and corporate rates posted. tfong007 Mar 26, 06, 3:00 am Thank goodness for freedom of speech. lovtofly3 Mar 26, 06, 3:51 am The best rate can be found here..http://www.starwoodhotels.com/promotions/promo_landing.html?category=GENDRE_H&IM=SPG_SO_DRE_H&back=-1 beats any corporate rate on most occassions Shareholder Mar 26, 06, 9:05 am Corporate rates and codes are the property of Starwood and the companies these are issued to. To use them in an unauthorized fashion is threft, clear and simple. FT cannot condone the promotion of theft and other such illicit behavior. Communities vary within FT, and I find different fora have different standards of tollerating such activities. The Starwood forum is one of those with higher ethical standards, which is why the OP's request has been frowned upon...it deviates from the normative behavior and tone set here by its regular posters. And as others have advised, there are plenty of sites for booking bargain rates at Bangkok Starwood properties. I suspect the OP doesn't want to avail himself of these as SPG points would not accrue to the stay. Still, rates even on the SPG booking site, in this city are quite low in comparison with properties elsewhere in the world. MatthewClement Mar 26, 06, 11:07 am Frankly your POVs (Phoenician and tfong007) are not desired, as I have a right to ask and it's my decision, just like it's yours not to provide ideas. If you go on other forums such as Marriott, all the car rentals, etc., there are many codes and corporate rates posted. Charming. I suspect my POV isn't desired either, but I'll throw it in anyhow. There is a policy on the Starwood board of NOT asking for or disclosing corporate codes on Flyertalk. So while you may have the "right" to ask in the grander sense, it's against house rules here. See this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=512575) for more info. THEMOON Mar 26, 06, 2:24 pm Wow what an uproar that question started. I guess on this forum you are only allowed to try and take advantage of targeted promos that you weren't targeted for not promo codes that don't belong to you...much more ethical. ldsant Mar 26, 06, 5:13 pm Folks. . .please remember that this forum prides itself on being civil towards one another. . . ldsant *wood Moderator mikey110890 Mar 26, 06, 7:41 pm Wow what an uproar that question started. Remember also in the course of this to break the TOS of this "higher ethics" thread by casting those aspersions. trekkie Mar 26, 06, 9:50 pm i dun necessary agree with what shareholder wrote period. That being said, i have been blasted before and scolded just because i have a low post count compared to others so i wont comment further. the post below highlighted a question i made last year about starwood set codes and that could perhaps shed some light on the topic of set codes. That being said, besides using discount websites like asiarooms.com and other websites, the op may find it helpful if he knows which properties in Bangkok he wishes to stay at and if he can assure the individual hotel that he is staying at the property for a significant period of time, im sure the hotel should be able to work something out. if its a one-off event, then maybe discounters would be appropriate. The purpose of flyertalk is for us as consumers to help proactively protect each other's interests. In sharing comments and posting feedback about spg properties, it allows us to be better informed about starwood properties and the way they treat us as consumers. Because of the way corporations perform and the many "not so prominent lurkers from starwood" on the starwood forums, we will never know what they do with the information we post here. Perhaps this is one way of viewing why many posters are reluctant to post corporate codes and so on... Makes sense??? (This is not the case with some other programs.) And as I noted in my post, these codes are very different from promotional codes...these are private property of the two companies who have negotiated them, and unauthorized use is theft. Plain and simple. Matthew Clement has further clarified what I said in my post. rbAA Mar 27, 06, 12:21 am SPG has coded all its promos and if a member tries to enter a code they've not been sent, it won't register. It may be fraud or misrepresentation, but definitely, if you are asked at check in for proof of eligibilty (business card, etc,) it can be both embarrassing as well as expensive, as you will likely be past cancellation time and may be charged a "prevailing" rate. haveric Mar 27, 06, 10:46 am There are MANY internet sites with discounted rates for prepaid reservations in BKK. You might want to try www.asiarooms.com or any of the others mentioned here. That has only become the norm in the last few years, I believe in part brought on because of all the information shared on this forum. I may have very few posts but I have been a lurker since Flyertalks inception so please don't make it seem that trying to get promos that members weren't targeted for is not a big part of what used to go on here, and still would if people could get away with it. logisnews Apr 18, 06, 4:13 pm The best rate can be found here..http://www.starwoodhotels.com/promotions/promo_landing.html?category=GENDRE_H&IM=SPG_SO_DRE_H&back=-1 beats any corporate rate on most occassions Wow, I didn't know these were there. I'm staying 6 nights in BKK, 2 (weekend) in HKT and in HKG and so these worked out great for me. So I saved myself 20-25% on these -- actually, you and your post saved me. These are PREPAID rates so you have to be careful, but they can save you a lot. I bought some travel insurance through https://www.csatravelprotection.com/ and since I wanted the insurance anyway for potential medical costs this worked out. Thanks for posting this (and getting this up to the top) I have a room coming up this weekend in Atlanta at the W and this might save me about $55. But I won't be getting triple points from the promo then if I cancel that reservation. :( |
