bmi diamond club - Promoted to Gold: Upgrade - miles adjustment

Just checking one of my family members accounts I manage which was promoted to BD Gold earlier and I noticed the following line:
'22/03/2006 - BD - Upgrade - miles adjustment 0 252
Why would 252 membership miles be added when being promoted from BD Silver to Gold? Especially when the membership miles currently show as zero

The same thing just happened to me. I think the points must be a subtraction, so as to give exactly 0. Does that make sense, given the numbers involved ?
Can't see why it doesn't show with a minus sign though.

Welcome to Flyertalk James451 :)
Yep, sounds the same as mine. Looks like the miles should be subtracted and 252 is the right amount!

This could be the balance of miles from the flight that tips you over the threshold. You're 348 miles short of gold. You take a 600 mile flight. You get made gold, and credited with the surplus 252 miles...

Wingnut - that is correct. I noticed this on upgrade to Silver and then Gold. Once you reach the threshold it sets to 0 - and the remainder points earned on the flight that took you over the threshold are then added as an adjustment.
This proceedure would be especially important for instance if you had 37500 membership miles, and then took a return flight to Australia - you wouldn't want to lose out on the surplus miles after 500 takes you to the 38000 threshold!

Ah, now it makes sense. Since I started the thread the surplus membership status miles have been added to the Gold total as per below.
Here is how it was looking last night click me (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/fbgdavidson/BDscreenshotprevious.jpg)
and just now click here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v42/fbgdavidson/BDscreenshot.jpg)
Appears the entries with '0' miles will be creditted to the account overnight doesn't fit for membership status miles on promotion.

I can second that. My excess miles have now credited. Initially I thought you simply lost the extra miles.
Although I'm pretty sure that when I requalified for Silver the extra ones were just lost. I emailed 'ask bmi' to ask if I could get them back but I never got a reply.

I am hoping someone could answer this for me as well:
I have 13204 status miles right now, and so am "Blue Level". My year began June 30th last year, I think.
I am planning on a NH ticket in C and F class next month, and the mileage accrual is outstanding:
C Class BKK-NRT 2880x2
F Class NRT-SFO 5121x3
F Class JFK-NRT 6600x3
C Class NRT-BKK 2887x2
So, in the first flight, I'll only need 2796 to reach Silver.
If the remainder of that day's itinerary (2900 for the first flight, then 15500 for the NRT-SFO flight) is credited toward the 38K goal for Gold, then I think I'll actually get gold with these flights(!), since the rest of the ticket totals about 43000.
But it will be difficult if the remainders aren't applied toward Gold. With the new Call Centre, I wonder if there will be staff who know about this, and can help me if there is a problem? Or does this look like a computer-generated thing that's done automatically, so not to worry?
Thanks for your help--I need to purchase the ticket in a few days, so any definitive answer would be greatly appreciated!

You have got it right this trip will get you a Gold card, your first flight will take you over the 16000 status miles and you will become Silver you will then Start a New Year with Zero status miles.
The 2984 Miles Balance of your first flight should then be credited to your New Year, this doesn't always happen automatically but if not a call to the DC will get it sorted, your remaining flights will earn you enough to get GOLD which and you will be well on your way to the 55K threshold after which you get a very nice add on each month whereby BD double the destination miles :D you have earned that month.
Wingnuts fantastic sticky at the top of the BMI forum page is full of useful and concise info.
I see you are flying into SFO and out of JFK if time and funds permit there are some great UA Y/UP fares from the West coast to the East coast in the States for MR's which could push you over the 55K mark.
