Stayed there for business eariler this year. I did not have a good experience, the room I was given had no heat. Had Engineer come up twice to fix it and could not get heat to work. Although it usually doesn't get cold in Dallas, that night it was in the 30's so it was an uncomfortable night. The hotel was sold out with mulitple conventions so I they could not move me to another room. I am a HH Diamond and was "upgraded" to one of the club floors, and given a continental breakfast voucher although there is a lounge (9th floor I believe). The hotel is older and the phone system does not have the two line or speaker phones. Try to get a room in the back, as the front rooms face I-635 and you can hear the freeway traffic noise.

I don't have exprience at this property but do routinely stay at the Doubletree on Central (US 75). They are decent enough there. It is also an older property but the heating always works. Just don't stay on the high floors in the summer, because the AC can have some difficulties.
The corner rooms are good, with floor to ceiling windows which makes for a nice view at night, especially from the high floors. Parking is VERY good, right in front of the door, no charge.
No lounge, but breakfast coupons.

Appreciate the post I think :D
Not the best endorsement or what I was hoping to hear about the property. I booked two of my three nights on a non refundable rate :( I was originally booked at the Westin Galleria
The good news is I buy with Hilton brands in trust. They seem to be taking care of problems better these days.Hopefully I will have a positive enough experience.
The cookie and the bed I am counting on if all else fails ;)

There is also a Hilton Suites less than a half mile away on Alpha that is much newer. You might want to check that out.

This property has been on the decline for sometime. It was a Renaissance until last year but was completely undserving of the title. While some of the meeting space is nice the rooms are small and outdated. I wouldn't recommend it at all.

Funny they Rave about it on Trip Advisor
I am starting to wonder if the reviews aren't hotel created :o
If it is bad I will just change hotels with or without my $$ back in hand.
The Westin has plenty of rooms and I will rebook if I have too.
My weekday res with them is fully refundable
Comments
"usually stay at Westins, and am spoiled by the Heavenly Bed (although I've noted many of their pillow-top mattresses are getting deflated and hard).
This Doubletree (formerly the Renaissance) at 635 & Midway was clean, the service was friendly, and the bed was better than most of the Westins I've visited lately - comfy mattress, comforter, and lots of fluffy pillows. Decent bathroom, and everything spotlessly clean. Concierge level features a nice free breakfast (with some hot items), and the hotel buffet is good as well (with the now-mandatory omelet chef). Had dinner one night in the empty restaurant, and it was excellent (if a little pricey). Free parking, which you can't take for granted anymore"

Yep, Galleria isn't that close to downtown. Recommend Hilton Suites, especially for location. Walk across the street to the Galleria. There's also a Hilton right on the other side of 635. Doubletree will do too, if anything you feel like you've been swept back to the 70s. ;)

Thanks I think
Doesn't anybody have something nice to say about this property? :(
If John Travolta comes floating in dressed in a white disco suit I will know we are clearly back to the 70s ;)

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and thought that it was a nice hotel but not 5 star special. A firm 3 stars. I consider most LAS hotels a 2 excl. Bellagio which is 5 & Venetian 4 fading to 3 (haven't been in Winn or THE Hotel). The Doubletree has an expansive lobby with plenty of nice chairs. I don't remember the pool so it must not have made an impression. Apparently, they have not made any significant improvements for business travelers since.
I was there for tourist reasons so it fit my needs fine such as a clean room and a nice bed. I did have a room overlooking the interchange and ate a good room-service breakfast looking at the traffic patterns from 9th floor. I saw a nasty accident at one of the on-ramps but no blood or anything. It was cleaned up in about 30 minutes. I heard very little traffic noise but you would hear a lot in rooms closer to the ground.
If you are accustomed to luxury, there probably are better hotels available nearby. If you are thinking about hitting the Galleria in the evenings for something to eat and people watch, it's pretty good as the interchange can be nasty at any time of day. The hotel did offer a free shuttle while I was there. The hotel is nowhere near downtown Dallas, 20 miles is my memory. This is a good hotel but doesn't meet the needs of jet-set business travelers if the phone/conference rooms haven't been upgraded. Guys flying in for a district meeting from Omaha would be impressed.

I never thought when booking this hotel that it would be anything more then a solid 3 to 4 star property.Appreciate the feedback though

The Galleria area is a good 10 miles north of downtown (a straight shot down the tollway). If you're doing business around there - you'll be ok with either, you'll be able to walk to the Galleria much more easily from the Hilton Suites; the Doubletree is on the other side LBJ (I-635). (The Westin you would have stayed at is physically connected to the mall).
If it were me, I'd stay at the Suites over the Doubletree.

The Doubletree is no longer on the other side of LBJ, that is now a Hilton. The Doubletree moved a couple of exits west on LBJ, to a property that used to be a Holiday Inn (several years back). It is not within walking distance of anything. Stay at the Hilton Suites or the Westin.

It's one of those things where you have to go "way" down to turn around. So lots of frontrage road stuff. The map doesn't have a pin for the Hilton Suites, but it is right by the intersection of Noel/James Templeton for future reference.
So are you actually trying to go downtown? or did you want to be by the galleria?

Doubletree by the Galleria Dallas,Texas :-: :-: :-: Three star with a fuzzy third ;)
At arrival I received some fuzzy information about my corner room or suite request on my reservation.
I was upgraded to a club floor room on the 8th floor.
When I asked the check in agent if it was a corner room she said yes  It wasn't
Room would have been adequate however I called down and asked again for the corner if at all possible
They called me back and said they had something better. I was thrilled with the jr.suite including fridge that they placed me in on the top 10th floor overlooking the freeway.
There was no noise other then the ac/heater blower which was hard to regulate.
At check in the hotel offers a welcome amenity card with excellent choices for Diamonds!! ^
250 bonus points, extra cookies and milk, fruit plate.....and a few other choices I can’t remember. Wish it were systemwide that might get me to drop another program if HH did extend it to all hotels.
The bed was excellent though the pillows lacked compared to the bed. Any request I had in house was met with a highly satisfactory solution. While the staff and team are far from excellent all were satisfactory enough and I was very pleased with the stay. The lobby (as previously mentioned by another poster) was a bit dated and reminded me of the typical Embassy Suites. The one downside was the business center which was closed due to renovations. They didn’t mention before booking and I had asked the hotel specifically in advance of booking.
The club lounge is only open from Tuesday to Friday. Breakfast in the dining room was just fair at best. When the club lounge reopened it too was just acceptable.Baking in house was very below average
Dining at lunch or dinner in the hotel was adequate or below average.Yet some items like a salad very nice.
For every 25 dollars spend at dinner the hotel will award an extra 250 bonus points on top of the 10 per dollar you already earn. Dinner was also just barely satisfactory. The hotel was highly generous with additional cookies.
I left highly satisfied minus the business center situation which I overlooked based on the other considerable efforts. I would consider them again in the area provided the rate was agreeable.
Reasonable three star property that could go further with renovation efforts……..
I felt the property did not reserve the glowing reviews on Trip Advisor and was better then expected based on some of the reports here. I would put my perception smack in the middle. I am warming up to the Doubletree brand but it still has a way to go……..
This has been a 777 Global MH Report for FT  ;)
