Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Help with CX907 and CX906 onwards to YVR CX888

Need your expert advice on the matter and would appreciate feedback.

Upon information read on this forum, my dear friend (usually in Hong Kong) booked CX I class tickets to YVR to originate from MNL. He will stick to the letter and will fly from HKG to MNL in order to go from MNLxHKG-YVR and then later YVR-HKG-MNL. There are a few questions on which your advice would be most appreciated:

1. The itinerary is MNL-HKG CX906 departing MNL 11.05 am, then on to CX 888 at 3pm. Ideally, my friend should fly to MNL and stay a night and then board CX 906 for Hong Kong but does not wish to spend a night in MNL just for the purpose. Question - Is it possible to fly from HKG to MNL on CX 907 to reach MNL at 9.55 am and then take CX906? I know there is only 70 minutes leeway but if it is the same aircraft would it be OK? Is it possible to find out whether it is the same aircraft?

2. If the above suggestion is possible, does my friend have to clear immigration to go to landside first? There might not be enough time! Or can he just stay airside?

3. Better still, is it possible to check in at HKG for all of CX 907, CX906 and CX888?

4. Or is it possible to check in luggage in HKG only for CX888 segment?

Greatly appreciated!

70 minutes is far too short. If, for some weird reason, your friend can secure an onward boarding pass (MNL-HKG) as he checks in Hong Kong, then there shouldn't be a problem, but that segment is on a completely different itinerary. There is a recorded case of a successful turnaround on SQ, though (see http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=521438&highlight=manila)

If you follow the signs to "transit" and go back up to departures you will be OK. There is enough time.

Also I would suggest that if your friend is not intent on visiting MNL anyway that he dump the HKG-MNL sector on the way back.

Edit - You should be able to get all BP in HKG

Personally I would feel OK taking this on, although I have never done an international transit or a same plane turnround at MNL. Assuming he already has the ticket (or e-tkt receipt) in hand then CX should accept his luggage at HKG for CX888 only, and also issue the BPs all the way through.

But being a CX Diamond would give me more confidence.

Thanks a lot. Just need to clarify:

1. Do you mean he can check in some luggage in HKG when transitting between CX906 and CX888?

2. If BPs were issued in HKG all the way, would it mean that he can actually ditch the CX906 and just start flying from HKG? I thought lots of people did that some years ago and CX is now determined not to allow that?

Cheers.

1. No what I meant was that before he caught 907 HKG-MNL he could check his baggage for 888 HKG-YVR (only). Or at least I would very much hope that CX would let me do that if it were me.

3. If you are checked in at HKG for 907-906-888 then I would take them. If you just sit in HKG waiting for 888 then your reservation for 888 would be cancelled when you no-showed 906 (regardless of the fact that you had checked in), and you would be breaking the rules for that ticket.

I'm doing this exact turnaround CX 907 + CX 906 in a couple of weeks...any recent change in the process at the airport, since 1.5 years ago from the last post, that some of you might know about ? I'm assuming no and it should be very easy (based on post #17 in that SQ thread)...but just want to make sure.

in case you're curious, I'm actually on a RTW ticket with this HKG-MNL-HKG side trip, and I was originally planning to do this and stay 2 nights in MNL; but now because of some personal reasons I need to cancel the trip and yet doesn't want to pay the change fee for taking away the flights from my RTW itinerary... :)

thanks !!
