You may or may not already know...

Hertz reps get commission on anything they sell you. You rent a compact, but upgrade upon arrival to a SUV...commission. You're not sure about coverage for the vehicle, but the rep says the right thing to get you buy a protection package...commission. You choose the fuel purchase option allowing you to return the vehicle without refueling...commission.

That may not surprise you, but the fee to upgrade might. The additional daily rate for a different vehicle is negotiable. You might be quoted an extra $17/day to jump from a compact to a town car, but it truly may only cost $10/day. There are minimum rates reps cannot negotiate below, but no maximums. Regardless of the $ amount, they get commission. Be assured that whatever you're quoted is not set in stone. Then again, it may not matter to you if it's $8 more vs $14 more.

Yet another reason to join #1ClubGold, the only person I talk to is the security guard when I leave and I doubt if he gets any commision.
