Hertz - Frustration with Promo Codes

I have no problem with the CDP number on the Hertz site, but any time I enter a Promo Code I end up with 'Cannot be Quoted - Why?'.
I am not using expired codes.
I get this for any location I try.
What gives?

Is it possible that, while the codes are not expired, your search terms are not consistent with those set forth in the coupon?
For instance, the coupon may say that it is for 20% off on "standard weekly or weekend rates" or something like that -- and you are searching for a three-day rental?
I have had that happen to me on more than one occasion. The other thing that I sometimes get is when I look to use the 300 bonus ZE1 point code for a rental smaller than full. That will show smaller cars as "rate not available" or something like that.

The coupons tend to have strict parameters which cause the system not to quote if they are not met.
Also, sometimes certain coupons just won't work with certain CDPs. For instance, if you're using 706900 for CDP, try a different one, like one of the AAA CDPs (215 is mine, but you can use any AAA club code for same effect), plus the coupon. Turning that around, some of the coupons are for AAA and may not work without an AAA CDP.
I've gotten to the point where I pretty much only try some combo of AAA, 706900 and any possible coupons (note: I posted a link to a list of AAA coupons a while back in the Coupon Codes thread) for my date to do rate checks. If I'm initially not happy with any of that, I try to tweak pickup/dropoff times instead. That seems to get me the best results.

Thanks for the responses, I had no idea changing the pickup/drop-off times would affect the price.

In many situations it probably won't. But it's something else to consider. In some cases just one hour earlier/later makes a difference. In others, it'll have to be a whole day to make any difference and may thus be less useful as a way to get a better rate.

In a recent case of mine, I was arriving in DEN at 730am (for a potential 8am pickup) with a resulting particularly high weekly rate. By playing with the res system and changing the pickup from 8am to noon (same dropoff 5 days later), the weekly total rate dropped by something like $100. And it was *not* due to a difference in effective rental days or going from daily to weekly rental etc.
It may have simply been a supply/demand thing in the system, maybe there were more available cars in the pipeline later in the day once more returns were processed or something.
I can work in the RCC for a few hours if needed to save that $. It wasn't going to be a busy day but that particular early flight arrival was the cheapest available for the total package.
