This is why I like being a Diamond member. I just got a pre arrival phone call from the concierge at the Cincinnati Hilton asking me if I needed anything special for my 1 night upcoming stay(reward stay). He specifically wanted to know if I wanted any dinner reservations. This to me was great above and beyond service. i will continue to give most of my business to the Hilton chain.

I can't say that I have experienced a phone call from the concierge before I have arrived. Are you a returning guest to that hotel?

While I've never had one of these calls (not Diamond), I'm not sure I'd want it. When I'm in travel mode I'm focused on getting out of the office, cleaning things up, etc. I'd find a "can I make a dinner reservation for you" phone call disruptive. I wonder if there is any way in your profile to specify "no pre-arrival calls".

This has happened to me once before. I don't recall the property. Of greater concern was the postcard from a HI I stayed at recently thanking me for my patronage. Mrs BamaVol's eyebrows were raised, but of course it was a perfectly legitimate stay of which she had advance and post-stay knowledge.

I've on occasion gotten phone calls, however, as a Diamond I usually get the pre arrival and post stay emails.

Not a diamond yet, but the pre-arrival canned emails I get often 2 weeks in advance are a bit like SPAM...

I have never stayed here before. When I reserved the room, I booked a reward stay. (ct 2)(they are changing to a cat 5 in June!!!!)
I could only choose "room assigned on check in".
I asked if I could have a King bed and I was transferred to the front desk where they said..."can't guarantee it because we are pretty full".

Can't wait to see what I get. I certainly will ask how many diamond members are staying there. The more I thought about it, the call wasn't so helpful....well see.

I guess by next July they will be offering to book rental cars, airline tickets etc just like the airline reservationists do.

MEMO TO FILE: remove all telephone and fax numbers from HH profile.

:D :D

I've never received a phone call, that I know of...
IMO, if I want/need something for my stay I will take care of it or I will intiate contacting the hotel (concierge).

I would find it annoying if this happened for all stays where there was a concierge.
I would find it slightly annoying if this happened for all award stays where there was a concierge.
I would not find it annoying if this happened at Cat 6 properties only for award stays. The idea behind it not being annoying is that you are most likely taking a longer leisure stay so you might make use of the concierge.
Also, I would not find an email from the conceriege annoying. To me that would the best option in ways to be contacted, the next best being carrier pigeon.

I wonder if this concierge makes a call for just Diamond award stays or all Diamond stays at the Cincinnati Hilton.

I don't mind the pre-arrival emails and will usually save them until I check-in. That way if I forget where I am staying I can check my email and see where I am supposed to be.

I've received an pre-arrival phone call once as a Gold from the Doubletree Surfcomber Miami Beach hotel. Wasn't expecting it...asked if there was anything special that I needed before my arrival. Said no...it was a pleasant stay.

haven't received a pre-arrival call since then...and I've stayed there multiple times as a Diamond.

Inconsistent...or maybe just eliminated?

I always get an e-mail about 4-5 days before my stay, its pretty generic, just saying they hope I enjoy my stay and it gives contact numbers, etc.

I get some spam-like emails - but appreciate getting them. If I were to get a phone call I would be impressed. I understand those out there who don't want to be bothered travelling, but it is nice when HH goes the extra step to call - because it's easier for them not to.

I was just going to post something about this ...

Today I was driving in a rental car from PHX to stay at the HI - Phoenix Airport South. On the way, my cell phone rang - it was the HI calling to confirm my reservation ... for tomorrow.

I informed him that my reservation was for today. He checked and said that yes, it was for today and that I was all set.

"Are you sure?" I asked.

It was bizarre. Why call to confirm? That's what my friggin' credit card is for, isn't it?

I just had a tongue-in-cheek discussion with my better half last week. No way could I ever cheat using hotels, restaurants, rental cars, and the like. I wouldn't be able to keep easy accounting of points and there's no way I'm miss out on them. If anything, it would have to be a simple picnic in the park with groceries from a cash-only market. Then we both smirked and changed the subject.
