For those of you planing stays at the Doubletree Savannah, be aware, that if you stay for multiple nights, you may be paying $50+ taxes or more per night extra than you would if you book each night seperately.

I have worked in the hotel industry for a few years now and I found it strange when I booked this location and got the following results:

Mar 15-17
Mar 15 $199 + tax (booked by itself is/was $149+tax)
Mar 16 $369 + tax (booked by itself is/was $299+tax)

I contacted the hotel about lowering the rate and was told that rate is not available at all and they are sold out for the 15th-17th of March, I told the lady if that was so, how come just made a test reservation for the same days seperately and she continued again to tell me it was sold out.

Received a call from the GM today (3/12) stating the rate I seen was non-bookable as it was a discounted rate and all discounts are blocked out for that time period...the funny thing is....at that time I was looking at the rack rate.

Jwhuffman,
I'll be at the Hyatt Savannah which has rates of $199 for March 15 (& 16 for those who have stayed the 15th; those who arrive the 16th pay $355) & $355 for the 17th.

Happy St. Patrick's Day 2U!

I have encountered the same at other Hilton properties. There seems to be a trigger in the booking engine that finds the highest rate for a night and applies it for all nights. Sometime you see on the reservation screen how the rate changes on a particular night. If it takes separate bookings to save money, then go ahead and do so.

When I saw the title of this thread as "Doubletree Savannah beware", I thought it had to do with service issues or a nightmare stay.

I would have used a different title that didn't condemn this property.

This is fairly common. I booked some nights in MHT for next month, and was going to try and split my nights between properties. However, my preferred place has a $99 rate per night for weekends. If I book Friday night by itself, $99, Saturday night is $99, but Sunday is $139 or so. If I book Sat-Sun night, it's $198.

I almost always book nights separately in case my plans change, or if I can fit extra stays in.

What you experienced was the highest annual peak day for this hotel.

St. Patrick's Day in Savannah is like Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Rooms sold out well in advance. Throw beads here and get a view!

One of the biggest St Paddys Day parties in the US is in Savannah.
