After some Bay area stays i thought I'd give my opinion of the properties:
ES South San Francisco : Three different stays in the last couple months were all good. A basket with candy, fruit and water was in my room as I checked in each time. They twice upgraded me to a larger suite that was quite nice. Last week they apologised that they were full, so just a normal room on the Hh floor. The rooms (at leats the top two floors) seem recently refurbished. They now have a lobby area with a couple computers avalable for use. On the downside, no exercise room (have to use HI next door). Pretty good room service.
Hilton Oakland airport : Fairly nice rooms, but nothing too special. Two very tiny water bottles were waiting for me. Since this was a Thursday/Friday night stay I tried to get upgraded. Nope.
Room service was very expensive and very average. You pay for parking and there was no free wifi. A very average stay,at best.
Newark HS : Average HS, but generally has a good price. Their evening reception generally has better food than most other HSs. Nothing special for breakfast.
ES Billingame : Rooms really need some reviving. They reminded me of early holiday Inn. They did upgrade me to a room with a great bay view.I had to call for my amenity (suppose to be candy, water, etc.) and received one bottle of water and one small cookie) I may have misread it here, but I thought that someone recommended the Doubletree for it's view, but this property is right on the water, has sliding doors, balconies and very good views. The views, however, are really only from the bedrooms. Too bad they didn't "reverse" the rooms (like Doubletree Suites Dana) and let the living area have the view. I did read here, and agree, that there are MANY kids here on weekends. It seemed like there were groups of 10 preteeners in every other room. They were all over the place!
I'd return here for a weekday visit, but never again on a weekend. This place was worse than the ES Anaheim on a weekend (another mistake I made in the past). Average, but not too expensive room service.
Doubletree SF airport : Checking into a very empty (Sunday/Monday night stays) hotel, I asked about an upgrade. The desk clerk said (I swear it seemed like "with an attitude") "Well, I did put you on the HH floor". The room had a view ,that is, if you like roof tops and garbage areas. Their air/heat is a window unit that never could quite get the right temperature. There is free WiFi in their lobby area (a nice library feel) that's conected to their bar.
The rooms were okay with a nice desk chair and had a printer, which didn't work. They charge for parking, but you can park for free a block down at the ES. I again received two very little bottles of water (got two cookies at checkin though). Bad room service.
Overall,I would not return to this hotel.
HS SF airport : A very nice property. If you are in the mood for a HS, this is one of the better ones. Good receptions, nice rooms and a great staff.
