Hilton HHonors - Upgraded room accommodation showing up in reservation BEFORE check-in!

Has this happened to anyone before:

With reference to a couple of Chicago Drake room reservations I alluded to in this prior thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=532535&highlight=drake+executive+room

My original reservation was for a "King Drake Deluxe room" for three nights over this coming weekend Fri-Mon (St. Paddy's Day Parade weekend!). I just checked my current reservation online and the room description now says "King Drake Executive Room Plus". The rate and dates remain unchanged.

Has anyone seen reservations change to reflect an upgraded room accommodation? I am a Diamond VIP and this is the first time I've seen a reservation reflect an upgrade before I've checked in. Maybe it's a Hilton brand nuance...never seen this happen when staying at HI, ES, HGI, DT, or HS (although I've stayed at other Hiltons before and this never happened).

Maybe it's a Chicago Drake thing...

Interesting...

Yes. IMO it seems to be happening more frequently now.

This happens very regularly with the Hiltons in Europe that have an Executive Club - nice to know in advance :)

I've been seeing this for the past couple of years at both international and US hotels. Usually it changes the night before check-in. Yeah, it is nice to know in advance.

Has anyone had the reservation change (for the better) but then revert to the original type of room?

My reservation that showed an upgraded room assignment has just reverted back to the original room booking. And I check in tomorrow...what the heck is going on ?!?!?!

I hope they still have me upgraded to an executive room.

They must have either sold the room or allocated it to somebody else?

When I check-in online, it will ask me if I'd like to upgrade. Its never upgraded me online automatically unless I told it to.

I checked online to see what rooms at the Drake are available for this weekend. Looks like they've sold out of executive rooms for a Saturday night stay. The other days the upgraded room is available, but because my reservations is for Fri - Mon, I am assuming they can't give me the upgrade for my entire stay.

Great...some poor soul is paying $350/night for an executive level room. Oh well...

My DoubleTree reservation that reflected the upgraded room also included a new higher room rate and told me no upgrade available when I went to the online check in. I backed out of it of course. But interesting.

I just checked into the Drake...before I did I checked room availability online and noticed that there were executive level rooms available...so I expected to be upgraded once I got there.

When I checked in -- sure enough -- they had upgraded me to the 9th floor executive level. How nice!

One drawback during the checkin...the Drake didn't have enough front desk clerks to handle the crowd. There were two front desk clerks working the check in counter and there were about 8 people waiting in line to check in...and the Drake check in process wasn't really all that quick (I waited 10 min and saw only one person complete a checkin from the line).

I was waiting in the HHonors line with one other person in front of me and initially there wasn't a staffer manning this line either. Strange. I joked with the Diamond VIP in front of me asking "How many Diamond VIPs need to stand in this line before we warrant a front desk clerk?" Finally someone from the back room showed up to clear up the HHonors queue and because of the nature of the HHonors program our check in process took less than 2 mins!

When I finally got my keys, I noticed that only one more person had completed a checkin from the regular line...the Drake needs to do a better job of anticipating guest arrivals! Need to staff appropriately. There were some frustrated guests standing in that line!

On a side note...I did notice alot of Bell staff just standing around...maybe the Drake should empower them to jump behind the front desk when needed!
