Hilton HHonors - Hilton Durban hotel Trip Reports and Reviews

I've stayed at the Hilton Durban in South Africa 6 nights over New Years day 2005 and 4 nights from january 4 2006.

The room the first stay I got was okay but there was nothing extra like water bottles or a Diamond member welcome note.
One day my room wasn't even cleaned. I mean, have you ever experienced that in any hotel? I've never.
At the end of the day the pool area and the gym looked like a disaster area with garbage everywhere. The restaurant personell was ignoring me 100%.
The room service was awful with a woman screaming and calling me names.
I just wanted a steak. And I got spaghetti.
Once I saw a cleaning lady giving me the finger.

I went straight to the mangager(a sub) with my complaints and she was very sorry.

On the second stay(I went on a game-drive in between the stays) they upgraded me to a suite. The whole staff welcomed me at the suite and attended me very kindly and they gave me a bottle of wine, 20 pieces of chocolates, fruits, 6 bottles of water, beef jerky and so on.
The pool area was clean with extra staff cleaning all the time. Even the gym was in perfect shape. Very nice actually. :D
All in all I withdrew my handwritten complaints to the real manager (who was free).

Have you HHonors members experienced anything like this?

Just finished a 4 night reward stay at the Hilton Durban (SA). Can't say enough about service and food. We were given executive floor and lounge priviledges (husband is Gold). The lounge serves very nice breakfast, afternoon tea with goodies, and very nice cockail munchies with bar service after 5:30. Hostesses were friendly (and helpful with city info). Great stay.

About 3 blocks from the beach. Next door to the Durban convention center. We took taxis to Harbour for a cruise and lunch, had tour companies pick us up at hotel for other sight seeing. It is not a very safe city, but it is pretty in spots.

Thanks. Seems like Durban is in the "same boat" as Johannesburg with respect to safety.
