I will be going to Sydney in 2 week's time. Any interesting cars on the Hertz fleet there (not the usual Camry/Falcon etc)?
Also, any discount codes work well over there?

Dave Noble Mar 6, 06, 12:39 am I will be going to Sydney in 2 week's time. Any interesting cars on the Hertz fleet there (not the usual Camry/Falcon etc)? Also, any discount codes work well over there? Only if you are going for premium cars. Group F - Ford Fairlane You may still find Group P - BMW 3 series Group G - BMW 5 Series though these are, I believe, being withdrawn from the fleet Otherwise Group D is a Falcon and Group C is a Camry If you don't want a car, but a cruddy AWD vehicle , you might be able to get a Landcruiser Dave merrickdb Mar 6, 06, 4:14 am I think the Maximas are still available in SYD (they definitely are in MEL). The Maxima Ti's are quite decent, with leather seats, sunroof, and decent performance. senna60_94 Mar 6, 06, 10:20 am Any cabriolets available? prashok Mar 6, 06, 11:53 am Hertz also offers the BMW Z4, but these may also be gone with the 3-Series/5-Series. The Maximas from what I've seen are on their way out, so the ones left in the fleet will probably be higher mileage variants... ANDREWCX Mar 6, 06, 12:20 pm I can recommend the BMW 3 series if you can get one - I got one the last time I was in Oz - only annoyance was the TV reception wasn't great in the country (but it never is) senna60_94 Mar 6, 06, 12:21 pm Why are they getting so conservative?? Also, I saw Mazda MX-5 (Miata) available from Hertz New Zealand. Are they available in Oz? merrickdb Mar 6, 06, 5:42 pm With the removal of the Z4s, there are now no convertibles in the Hertz Australia fleet. You'd think they could at least get some Holden Astras or something... Alas, I'm forced to go elsewhere for my convertible fix. I'm happy to hear about the MX-5s in New Zealand, though. I will have to book one for a trip there later this month. Dave Noble Mar 6, 06, 7:15 pm Why are they getting so conservative?? The reason for getting rid of the luxury models is that they were not being rented enough to justify keeping them on fleet Dave Aus_Mal Mar 12, 06, 7:27 am According to an undated brochure I picked up at Hertz today, the following are the current cars/classes in Australia. A - Economy(Manual)- Toyota Echo Hatch A - Economy(Manual)- Hyundai Getz B - Compact(Manual) - Nissan Pulsar Sedan/Hatch B - Compact(Manual)- Toyota Corolla Hatch H - Compact- Nissan Pulsar Sedan/Hatch H - Compact- Toyota Corolla Hatch H - Compact- Hyundai Elantra Sedan C - Medium- Toyota Camry Sedan D - Full Size- Ford Falcon Sedan D - Full Size- Nissan Maxima U - Full Size(Sat Nav) - Ford Falcon Sedan E - Wagon- Ford Falcon Wagon E - Wagon- Ford Territory F - Luxury - Ford Fairline Ghia Sedan P - Special - BMW 318i sedan X - Premium (Sat Nav) - Jaguar X-type sedan G - Luxury - BMW 525i Sedan K - Sports - BMW Z4 Convertible T - Minibus - Toyota Torago M - Minibus(Manual) - Toyota Commuter Availabilty will of course depend on the Hertz outlet. Note also the discussions in this thread about phasing out of certain types of cars. Shuttle-Bored Mar 13, 06, 12:10 pm Hertz Sydney (Downtown - Riley Street) didn't have any prestige fleet vehicles available when I rented on 12th Feb. Had booked a Falcon, but got a very nice Maxima TI - very good condition car. Renting from Brisbane the week after saw a Falcon, and then another Maxima - definitely prefer the driving experience of the Nissan over the Ford.... itsme Oct 24, 06, 8:19 am The OP asked if there were any discount codes to use in Australia. I would ask the same, throwing in New Zealand too. Does anyone have knowledge or experience of discounted rates for rentals in either or both countries, or other advice to offer relevant to rentals there? If anyone does, I would appreciate hearing about it before we take off for those parts in a couple of weeks. The one I was interested in expires Nov. 30 which might work for you (I need January). https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/specialoffers/index.jsp?targetPage=specialOffersPerCategoryView. jsp&Category=U&leftNavUserSelection=globNav_2_7 itsme Oct 31, 06, 10:22 am I see some on the Hertz site. Those can't be used in combination or for an automatic. At least in New Zealand, where unlike Australia we won't always be on fairly straight, level roads, but rather driving through mountainous areas, we do want an automatic, so these offers don't help us there. (Why would Hertz exclude automatics? Can one find a car agency in the States that still has manuals? Isn't it true that manuals no longer have an fuel efficiency advantage over automatics, so that can't be the reason to favor them.) Any other special codes/offers to try in Australia or New Zealand? jasonvr Nov 9, 06, 10:53 pm Are you referring to their offers of 1) $20 off on a 5-day rental, $40 off on a 14-day rental; and 2) a free upgrade? How about free day on a 4+ day rental? Offer (https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/specialoffers/index.jsp?targetPage=AU_QantasInbound4for3.jsp&Category=U) Also, for those of you who need things further out than November, try looking closer to your trip to Oz. I was just there and used an Amex Selects deal that I found on the Hertz site for 1 free day on 5+ day rental. Had to fight to actually get it taken off, but it did eventually work out. Cars were the last thing I booked, fairly close to departure date, so that I could see the offers that were available. You could always book now and cancel later without penalty. |
