I've done 5 nights, but wonder if there's someone out there who's done a lot more. There was an article or two a few years back about somebody who lived out of San Francisco hotels that they bid on Priceline, stringing together many multiple 21 day bids. At the time, winning bids were lower than the price of renting a San Francisco apartment. He usually got the same hotel too, so they didn't even have to switch rooms for many weeks on end. Think the longest I've ever done was six days, most of my bids are for 1-3 nights though. chobby100 Mar 3, 06, 8:58 am re: living in a hotel via priceline from biddingfortravel: http://p070.ezboard.com/fpricelineandexpediabiddingmemberannouncements.sho wMessage?topicID=673.topic (the tv story no longer seems to there) mbstone Mar 5, 06, 12:14 pm Funny you should ask. For the last 7 months I have been staying in LAX airport hotels via PL, see my BetterBidding.com thread under "Run of House." But as of tomorrow I have rented an apt. humanoid94 Mar 5, 06, 7:55 pm Years ago there was a guy on BFT that was always posting long stays in San Fran. I believe he said that it was cheaper for him to stay at a hotel by the airport than rent an apartment. I have no idea if that guy is still around (I was banned about 3 years ago), but I thought it was funny at the time. I just read mbstone's thread over in betterbidding.com and the San Francisco guy replied - he's still doing it, although he says it's harder to score longer stays and it's a bit more expensive than it was a few years ago. CalItalian Mar 7, 06, 1:10 pm My friends stayed in Priceline hotels in Dallas everyday for over 9 months during 2000-2001. At the time Priceline was giving lots of bonus money. Their rooms (mostly 3*) were $1-$4 per night plus tax and priceline fee until the then easy and generous bonus money program was ended. If it wasn't for priceline, they would not have been able to come up with the down payment on their home that they moved into at the end of their Priceline stays. At one priceline hotel, they spent nearly 5 months continiously through 4 day bids (to maximize the bonus money). They were upgraded to a suite during their time at the hotel. USA_flyer Mar 8, 06, 12:22 pm Thanks for the responses, I ought to have been more specific as I was wondering about 2 weeks for a vacation and whether that was possible. Judging by what I've seen however, I think if I want to use priceline I may have to break it up into 5 day chunks which is fine too. Hi, you CAN bid for stays up to 21 days in length on Priceline, but you may wish to bid for shorter periods depending on the city and its expected hotel occupancy level during your stay, weekday vs weekend bid amounts, etc. You could try bidding for all 14 days, but you might want to try a strategy of bidding for shorter periods, depending on your flexibility. Check a site like Better Bidding to get an idea of the typical bidding patterns for the city you are interested in. How important is it to you to stay in the same hotel for the entire stay? For the sake of convienience a single hotel would be better. Anyway, it's a while before i have to actually worry about it, so i'll look at the bidding boards closer to the time. chitownflyer Mar 10, 06, 9:18 pm I typically use Priceline for between three to seven day bids. It is always worth exploring whether there are changes in the rates of hotels for the nights of your intended stay. Then you may want to break your bid up into shorter stays. Don't forget, you can also try the add a night/nights feature to a winning bid. mbstone Mar 10, 06, 11:48 pm PL rooms are rarely available for more than a few days, and the best deals are found the same day or slightly sooner. Homestead/Ext Stay properties (kitchen, no other amenities) can often be had for long stays if these properties are tolerable to you. PL is much more willing than before to Zonk people by placing them in completely unacceptable, sleazy properties such as the (former) Furama or Backpackers Paradise. And they wonder why their reverse-auction business model is in the dumper. Also, rack-rate hotel occupancy is high thus limiting the number of PL rooms out there. I have booked weeklong stays at resort properties well in advance, don't give up. BEAV Mar 12, 06, 12:04 pm My longest Priceline stay was for 7 nights in Orlando back in '02. I felt fortunate to pick up the Marriott World Center resort for a full week. Not sure I'd be so lucky these days! Abby Mar 19, 06, 9:34 pm I'm currently on a 14-day stay that was booked on Priceline a few months ago. The longer stays are possible, it just depends on the city and the property. The Juiceman Apr 22, 06, 3:55 pm I spent 10 nights in the Amsterdam Marriott in 2003 on a Priceline bid of $75 per night and this was during Christmas and New Years. |
