I must say I am currently very disappointed with the current level of service, or should I say lack of service from Hertz. I rent a car from Hertz 3 weeks 19 days every month and the respect and treatment I receive is poor at best!

In the last 6 months I have seen a distinct drop off of service. No P.C. upgrade or the upgrade is the Taurus with leather and a sunroof. If I rent a car for 200+ days a year and the upgrade I receive is leather and a sunroof that is a slap in the face! Many of the stations that I rent from try giving me the best car the have a Grand Marquee does anyone actually want to drive a Grand Marquee that is under the age of 80? This is a terrible car that lacks comfort and fuel economy of most of today’s cars. Why does Hertz rent these? Ford no longer owns them maybe the AARP bought them and requires these P. O. S.

As it is wrong to only complain about service I must give positive feed back on two of the Hertz stations. Austin TX airport, the gold desk service is the best they have never failed to provide a good car at a good rate and provide this service in a positive manner. Also Boston Logan, they went out of there way to make sure that the car I rented was correct and what my reservation was for.

Overall very few of the Hertz stations keep me coming back, most could care less

What does "service" & "respect" have to do with the car you get?
You want a fancy car -- pay for it. As a frequent renter, hertz should be polite and friendly with you and have your reserved car ready to go when you arrive.

Where are you renting from that you have these issues?

If you don't get the upgrade you are entitled to you should complain on the spot to the gold desk. They are required to upgrade you one class, max to a G class which is the Grand Marquis. Anything above that is not required on their part.

One of the issues is that you are renting for a long period of time. If they could rent out one of the nicer cars for more money, they probably won't give it to you for a free upgrade.

Did you have Hertz add your car preference to your profile? If your profile says No Grand Marquis, most likely you won't be assigned one.

It also helps if you are nice to the agent.

I typically rent for one day, two days max(nationwide) and the cars that I have been given this year(reserved F) include:

S-type Jag
Eddie Bauer Explorer
Deville
Towncar(2)
Tahoe(2)
Grand Prix
Avalon
Escalade
Lincoln LS
G35

Would I have received any of these cars if my rental would have been for a week or longer, no way in hell.

The next time you need a car, reserve it for one day. Then, call Hertz the next day and tell them that you need to keep the car for a week, repeat one week later.

ALARISstl, not sure that is a good idea. The rate he will eventually be charged may well be dramatically higher than if he had reserved the car for the correct period to start with.

When I had to extend a rental, (I was in a Deville) I just called 800-car-gold to extend the rental. They just changed my rate from the daily F to the weekly F rate. It ended up being less expensive.

I wouldn't call the location directly though, they would probably make you come back and switch out or jack up your rate.

I'm guilty of the same thing. I got a free upgrade to an FX35 on a reserved 3 day "F" size rental. Called and extended it to 30 days and was charged the a normal "F" rate.

I've noticed the same. I've been in and out of MSP the past 3 months (almost every week) and have had:
- Cars that were dirty, smelled like smoke or damaged.
- Cars parked in row 8 - 9, which isn't fun if it's 10 degrees, not to mention
that I'm PC and should be parked in the first row.
- "Upgrades" to a Kia Somethingorother and a Mini-van.
- Wait times of 10 - 15 minutes to get checked in (yes, I know, I could have dropped and run to check in, but I've problems with that in other cities)
- Agents who wanted to charge me $100 to upgrade a vehicle that I should have been granted because of my 'loyalty'.

Complained 3 weeks in a row to the same station manager. It seemed to work...Got here this past week, car was in the front row, clean, a nice upgrade.

It's a shame that I had to complain to get the service that Hertz tells me I should be getting, but it's seems the squeeky wheel....

That's strange, MSP upgrades me to a prestige vehicle 90% of the time on a F res and the car is always right outside the door, ready to go. This is in fact the only location nationwide that has upgraded me to a prestige on more than one occasion in the past twelve months. My absolute fav station.

BOS has upgraded me 4 weeks in a row. navigator and 3 volvos. All brand new, maybe they just got some new cars in, this month. MSP has always been ok, not bad ( PHL ) not Great ( BOS) ,

I have similar sentiments as you.
Have you tried renting in Canada? IMHO, Hertz in the U.S. beats Hertz Canada hands down.

I can't stand people w/status being demanding but.....
What you state above is what everyone should expect from Hertz. As a frequent renter, they should deliver whatever they have advertised. That includes guaranteed upgrades. Just my two cents.

I agree that a Taurus is not much of an upgrade (regardless of leather). I'm driving the car you are described now as an "upgrade".

As I pulled out of the Hertz lot yesterday I saw several people in Audi A6's pulling out around me and wondered if any of those were "upgrades?" If they are not paying for them, then I'm evidently doing something wrong...

I should acknowledge that I've gotten Jaguars and a Volvo a few times, and have received decent (although not wonderful) service over the past year. However, most of the time I tend to end up in a Grand Marquee at best, and I also agree with you these are not the type of "upgrade" I was thinking about.
