I did a search and may have missed this. After about 3-4 years, the ear pads started cracking and falling away form their seat. I called Bose to get a repair kit and was offered a swap, the QC2 for the QC1 at $188.
This is the first time I have heard of Bose discounting the QCs.

Were you required to send your QC-1s back?

About a 2 years ago I was in a Bose store enquiring about purchasing the QC2. In the discussion, the clerk mentioned a promotion to trade-in the QC1 for the QC2 for about $150-200 IIRC. By the time I was able to get back to the store (approx 1.25 hr away) 6 months later, the promotion had ended. I have not heard of a similar promotion until your posting.

Yes. Ship out the old today and they will immediately ship the new QC2 on receipt.
They did ask for all of the "parts", but the guy said just send what you have. They realize that things get lost over time, like the bag, etc.

Very cool. I may take advantage of this and trade in ours. Wonder how many pairs they get with AA stenciled on the earcups????

After having asked Bose representatives previously about an exchange program (sell them on Ebay was the response), I called yesterday to get the ear cushion kit for my QC1's. The total cost was $42, the customer service guy asked if I would be interested in exchanging them instead for QC2 at $100. This is a no brainer and with tax the total was $105.

So either the price has dropped since the previous post or they are having a special promotion. I will be peeking out the window for the delivery guy every time a car goes by until they show up. :D

Even at $100 they are still overpriced.

man as long as they are not refurbished, or the original QC2's, I would do this in a second. Although, I DO like having just about the oldest pair of QC1's out there.

Worldminer, thanks for resurrecting this thread. I have an old pair of QC1's with a loose connection. Called Bose to request a replacement part and was advised they no longer provide support for QC1's but if I paid the $100 servicing fee they would ship a new pair of QC2's as a replacement. That decision was a no-brainer.

Wow, that's worth a call. Just call and ask about an exchange or do you have to play dumb and try to order something?

Yeah, maybe, but I still love my QC2. They're great for watching a DVD on a laptop. ^

Aaargh.
Wish this thread had re-emerged about a week earlier.
Just "retired" my QC-1s and used Marriott Rewards points for a pair of QC-2's....would have taken the $100 deal.

Certainly not trying to win the 'oldest resurrected thread' award today, but wanted to add my current experience about the Bose headphone exchange program.

I finally got around to cleaning out my box of broken stuff, and found my long-ago broken QC1's. The plastic bayonet piece that holds the earmuff, attached the headband, broke on the L side (one of the plastic curved bayonet pieces holding the L earcup broke), and in such a way that superglue really won't do the job.

I called Bose and was offered the exchange program.

QC1>QC2 for US$100
QC1>QC3 for US$150

I've seen a couple other threads on this topic but wanted to give another recent report. I'll probably go for the QC2 deal, apparently as long as it is the most recent V2 of the QC2 according to another thread (if I read it right).

Any other recent exchanges and did you get the most recent QC2 version?

Not that recent of an exchange (about 18 mo ago) but on my QC1 > QC2 swap I did receive the latest model.

Are you saying you got the QC3 out of the deal? If so, for how much?

Any intel on what QC2>QC3 will cost?

No, I got the latest rev of the QC2 - the "Second Edition" with the latest update to the magnetic shielding in the earcups. Sorry don't remember the exact rev # offhand. I didn't want the QC3s due to the lack of a replaceable battery & the occasional reported squealing when the earpads were in close proximity to a hard surface.
