Cathay Pacific Asia Miles - Qantas or Cathay Business class to SIN?

I have posted this on post the Asia Miles thread and the Qantas thread to see differing opinions.
I have an upcoming trip to Singapore, initiating in the US. I am a OW Emerald, so I'd like to get points to requalify as soon as possible. My questions:
1. Which offers better service and comfort, Qantas from LHR to SIN (I would take AA from USA to LHR) or Cathay from New York to SIN via HKG?
2. How likely or unlikely as a OW Emerald that I could get an upgrade to First on either?
Your help is much appreciated.

Did you consider the SQ EWR-SIN direct flight, the raffles service is enhanced and in my experience its a pretty nice environment, those 345's are pretty quiet!

It's a tough call, I'd lean towards CX due to:
- Shorter travel time (I'd assume) and fewer connections
- Likely to get better service on CX than AA and QF/BA (you can of course go BA from LHR-SIN)
- Evidence on here seems to suggest CX look after OW Emerald very well.
One assumption though - you can get comfy on CX's business class seats...

I'm a pretty big boy, 6' 3" 300 lbs. so for the larger person, how do Cathay's J seats rank in comfort?

Posting the same identical post in two different forums is a no-no. It would have been better for you to provide a link to either..or asked your question in the Oneworld forum about this.. as your question has nothing to do with asiamiles.
