View Full Version : Safety Demo- why no video?

Since B6 has TVs in every seat, does anyone else find it surprising they don't have a video to show the safety features of the aircraft?

Nearly all other airlines with video monitors play a video in-lieu of the traditional live demo by FAs.

I think that having the demo on video could be more entertaining (with that B6 charm), informative and decrease time on the ground (especially since B6 has such a poor on-time record) as FAs would be able to prepare the cabin for departure rather than manually showing us how to buckle their seat belts.

Any B6 insiders know why B6 does a manual demo?

They probably are not equiped with video player and probably only have satellite TV equipment installed.

They have on-demand movies. This means they have hard drives with videos.

My take is that they hope that people will pay more attention to flight attendants than to videos.

ATA also has screens but they don't have a safety video.

JetBlue wants an equal and fair balance of technology and human interaction. A video is less personalized and people would not pay attention.

One of the FA's told me that people are less likely to pay attention to it when it is shown on individual screens.

I once flew on a united from New York To LA and it also had individual screens, in that flight they had FA's do a presentation

This sounds like a good explanation - no tape. But they do have DVDs for the movies, right?

Safety demos are certainly there to comply with FAA regulations and to inform passengers of pertinent life-saving information. BUT, the reality is that so many travelers have heard it before- many, many, many times. Independence Air made their demo entertaining, and I'm sure if B6 tried, they could do the same.

Look at the example you use...flyI, an airline which lasted no more than 18 months! Not good enough? Song also tried to make their safety demo entertaining...but customers thought it was actually annoyinh. Plus, Song is folding into mainline Delta. Sulsk, if you are not a satisfied jetBlue customer, just don't fly them. Millions of others love them, including myself.

It could be cheaper to have the FA's do the demo rather than paying to produce a video.
