California - La Valencia Hotel - Any feedback?

I did a search but the last entry was ~5 years ago.

Any feedback on La Valencia Hotel (La Jolla)? I am staying there end of Apr for a work conference. Hotel definitely looks nice from the pics on the website.

I can't speak to the comfort of the hotel - but I can say that the location is amazing. It is on Prospect Street, in the center of great restaurants and shops, walking distance from the water.

I'm staying there 5 days / 4 nights. Would I need a rental car then (vs taking a taxi and staying on the property)?

The website says its only 12 miles / 20 mins from SAN.

La Valencia (http://www.lavalencia.com/) is in the heart of the village of La Jolla. You can walk to anything in the village, and in fact, that is the only way you'd want to move around the village.

If you want to go into San Diego, you should have a car. We don't do taxis well in southern California. For example, you need a car to visit the attractions that La Valencia shows on its own website (http://www.lavalencia.com/act-attractions.asp).

Be aware that traffic is very slow in and out of the village. While San Diego is just 12 miles away, it is 12 sloooow miles, as you have quite a distance to drive from the village to the freeway.
