I'll be in Sydney in early April and would really like to catch a sporting event. Unfortunately it doesn't look like there are any games the first weekend of April except for a Dragons v Broncos match at WIN stadium. Would that be a good event to attend? How difficult is it to get to WIN stadium from downtown Sydney?
I'd also like to watch a concert at the Opera House, but it doesn't look like the Opera House box office sends tickets outside of Australia? Is there any way around this?
Thanks!

The Opera House will hold tickets for pick-up at the Box Office on the main level- I think you must pick up your tickets on the day of the performance before 5 PM. We've done this a couple of times and it works well- but don't try to pick them up during lunch hour- you'll be waiting for a long time!
Also, if you're interested in events at places other than the Opera House, you can find listings at Ticketek.com.au and Ticketmaster.com.au.

Not sure where you looked for your info but there are plenty of games every weekend from March onwards in fact the Dragons and Broncos are in about round four. You may have to travel out into the Sydney Burbs but it would be closer than WIN stadium which is down in Wollongong and takes about a 90 minute train ride, then bus from Wollongong station..to get to it. It is not difficult to get to, but it is time consuming, especially during the weekend when trains run even more irreguarly than they do during the week :)
I believe that weekend there is a game on at Parramatta stadium. The organisation I work for sponsors the Rabbitohs so I know that they are playing down at Cronulla. I think they are playing on Saturday though. For more info you may want to check out www.nrl.com.au

Thanks for the help and the link, but I'm still a little unclear on what's the best sporting match to attend on the weekend of Apr 1st.
As far as I can tell, Australian Rules Football is the most popular sport in Australia, but the only team that plays in Sydney regularly are the Sydney Swans. Unfortunately, because U2 is Sydney that weekend, the Swans aren't playing in Sydney.
I think the second most popular sport is Australian Rugby. Apparently there are several teams that play near Sydney regularly, the Rabbitohs, Dragons and Roosters. The Roosters are playing in Brookvale that weekend, the Rabbitosh are playing in Cronulla, and the Dragons are playing Wollongong.
I though Wollongong was closest to Sydney, but I'm probably wrong. Would the games in Brookvale or Cronulla be better to attend?

Brookvale would be the closest to the Sydney CBD as it's just near Manly. Second closest would be Cronulla and the furtherst out of the ones you have mentioned is wollongong. So if you are looking for close to CBD go with the Brookvale game...just a bus ride from the CBD.
As for the most popular game..it depends who are are talking too. Now most Sydneysiders would say Rugby League. In Melbourne it's Aussie Rules..rugby union follows on behind.

The very best game that weekend will be on the Friday night (March 31st), in Sydney. The Super 14 Rugby game between Waratahs and Cheetahs.
