Travel Technology - Watching video on an iPod Nano

I was on the train today and sitting next to a kid who had an iPod nano and was watching a video on it. I proceeded to ask him how he did it and he explained that he loaded linux onto the iPod and through some process was able to download a video from his computer and watch it on the iPod.

Has anyone ever seen this before and have more information on how to do it?
