I may catch some grief but... headed to the Galapagos for a week. Will be arriving 2 days before my boat leaves and the demands of work are such that I must be fairly connected for those 2 days before heading off for a week of blissful incommincado! Online I've found listings of internet cafe's and anecdotal info that connects are murderously slow. Does anyone have on-the-ground experience that they could pass on. In particular it would be nice to be able to get online WI-FI with my laptop so I can use some software there and move a few files around with FTP.

any comments much appreciated

thanks

I was there about 5 years ago and IIRC in Pto. Ayora on Santa Cruz there were at least a couple of internet cafes. Don't recall any issues with speed then. Don't know if there is now WiFi but if you are staying at a hotel, check with them.

The Galapagos are spectacular. Read The Beak of the Finch by Jonathan Weiner before you go.

Where are you entering the country? I went with Lindblad to the Galapgos back in November. We stayed at the Hotel Hilton Colon in Guyaquil the night before we got a flight to the islands, and at the Hotel Hilton Colon in Lima the night before the flight home. Both Hiltons had a business center with internet connections, and if I remember correctly, the Hilton in Guayaquil also had WIFI.

I went to the Galapagos last September, and I was internetless for 7 days. It was only on the next to last day, when we docked in Puerto Ayora, that I got into an internet cafe.

I'd check with your tour company (or wherever you're staying) to be certain.
