Hey, I was trying to plan my honeymoon (in Obidos, Portugal) and went to the Hertz site to rent a car. My questions are: How is the service at this location for Five Stars? Why are all the nice cars Diesel (MB C220 CDI, E220 CDI, etc)? and does the MB SLK have a trunk that can carry 2 standard size roll-a-boards?

Thanks
JK

Regarding your diesel question: about 50% of all European cars, and just about all Mercs, run on diesel. Three reasons: the high cost of fuel in Europe; the wide availability of low-sulfur diesel; and, linked to the latter, the advanced diesel technology (nothing to do with the slow, smelly diesels found in American trucks).

Regarding diesel engines: modern ones are great to drive, with lots of low-down torque. I actively try to rent diesels in Europe because they are so nice to drive. It's almost like driving a V8 in a gentle state of tune, but with much better economy. And at European fuel prices, you''ll be glad of that economy!

As for the SLK, I think much of the trunk is taken up when you lower the top, so that may mean that you can only enjoy open-air driving when you have reached your destination and dropped off your bags.

Have a great honeymoon!

Thanks so much everyone!
So am I safe to assume that diesel will be available at all the gas station locations?
