Found this on Travelocity. Fare Basis: OE7QNR. Seems to work either direction. 3 day minimum, with no seasons restrictions. Great for summer time. I'm not an AA flyer, but I couldn't resist a peek. Enjoy!

Make sure you are using the flexible dates option and a stay of 3 days or more. Comes up as low as $361 all in on AA.com. Sample trip found 4/25-5/01 - many more dates available.

Nope it earns full EQMs domestically, but only 0.5 EQPs. This issue continually comes up.

I've acutally got the same price on AA.com (about $302 + taxes) fro dates in May too.

Denver also an option. OE7QNR fare, 3 day min. $306 base, about $361 all in.

Sadly I cant find it after June 1 when the new challenge period comes out.
To Challenge in May is completely pointless.

Silly me. The OP said great for summer, so I checked beginning in June. The fares were well over $600. I now see $300 fares in May. That's awesome.

I see the fares on Travelocity.com for July. Limited choices, such as 7/12 and return 7/18 or 7/25 (or 7/26 with return 8/8). aa.com does not give the same fares with either Flex or exact flight search.

sorry, but other than buying another ticket to get from DFW to WAS or Den. I dont think there's another way to take advantage of this fare if i am based in dallas? am i correct? eventhough both routes have a stopover at DFW.

It's a year (or so) after you make the initial reservation, not the initial flight. And keep in mind that "O" is the lowest of the low and that certain times AA may not make any "O" class available.

travel214, the way to take advantage of this fare from DFW is to buy a ticket to DEN or IAD. If you book it with a connection in DFW on the return, you can skip the last segment as long as you didn't check any bags (just don't make this a habit or AA revenue management may start looking at you).

It's a spotty guarantee and requires that you buy the more expensive fare offered on aa.com then ask AA for a refund of the difference + $50 if/when they find the better fare on the other web site. Some folks have already been burned, others have been successful.

I've been monitoring SFO (and OAK) daily and have seen these fares too. The latest travel date seems to be June 8th. I need to return later than that :(

Unbelievable fare: $366.26 RT. I asked Mr Big V if he was willing to go to Hawaii, fully expecting him to say no. Imagine my surprise when he was game! ^ I might turn him into a milage runner, after all. :D

And yippee, we'll both fulfill the AA Gold Challenge with this little jaunt, despite the 50% EQPs with the O fare. I'll only be about 2500 EQMs from a platinum, so may even go for that, which would be shwa-eeet!!!

I can't believe how differently I go about selecting flights nowadays. It's like I can divide my travel into two eras: Before FlyerTalk and After FlyerTalk.

Once upon a time, price and time were the only considerations. Before I pulled the trigger on this trip (as well as others), I looked at EQMs, flight times, aircraft, available seats, SeatGuru, fare codes, and # of BIS/FC seats. :)

Knowledge is power. Or is it more a case of, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing??? ;)

Clearly flying is more enjoyable when you are able to make informed choices. Thanks to FlyerTalk, I'm far better capable of making the best decisions.

I found the $366 all-in easily with the flexible date search on travelocity for a wide variety of dates. I seem to remember that around Labor Day there was availability for Wed/Thu departur and a Tues return.... Just look a little and keep clicking on the travelocity flex date map until you find a lil green available calendar square to click on!

I booked from DCA, but this fare was also available from IAD (shudder).

I identified which dates to target on AA with cheap availability through ITA. I searched only from DCA to HNL in the month-long search. By last night availability out of National was only around March 7-8. Some quick cross-checks I did on Travelocity were pulling up IAD itins for the same price around those dates.

I only searched from March 1 for 30 days, so I don't know about availability of this fare outside of March.

Good luck! Hope you get in on it. At first aa.com was only pulling up two stops each way, but with a little persistence I was able to get the outbound legs down to one. (I realize that this may be blasphemy on the MR board, but I'm draggin Mr Big V along and he's an antsy traveller. Sitting still for that long makes him nuts--thus our good friend, Mr. Ambien is the most important thing I pack.)

I lot of the ORD-LAX flights and even HNL-LAX were on 757s AKA slave ships, so keep an eye out for the 763s. Two aisles and much nicer config. I booked us the C and G seats in hopes that no one would take the middle and we could spread out. :)

I got two trips planned at these rates, one in July and one in November. Couldn't resist such a deal. Now all I have to do is figure out my work schedule.

When I re-checked for this fare this morning, I couldn't find it anymore.

I would very much like to be able to take advantage of this, as I am going anyways, and this way I can save the FF award miles, and qualify for the Gold challenge in one trip (along with a puddle-jump to KOA and back).

Nope, sigh, all gone. When I do a travelocity search from now through Dec on WAS/HNL the low fares are just under $600....Same search yesterday was golden!

Oh--I expanded my search by another day, and I'm looking at $311.66

So, the question that made me hesitate before is: is this worthwhile to do rather than the freebie on FF Award?

I figure I'll just earn half-Q-points for IAD-LAX-HNL, so 4844 for $312. Then a Hawaiian puddle jumper (through AA) "end-to-end" during the trip for another 2x250 for $178. Combined it will put me over 5000, which will earn me gold in the challenge.

I'll earn about 11,134 FF miles from the flights, and return the 35k miles for the FF award ticket I already got (anyone know cost of getting that cancelled w/ trip still 1.5 months away?).

I don't fly often (I can more now, as vacation time is going up, and this great forum I can zip off for long weekends), so I don't know how useful the gold status will be the rest of the year. I don't travel w/ work, so very unlikely I'll retain gold; but maybe I can have some fun with it the rest of this year.

AA does not sell codeshare interisland flights by themselves. HA coded flights do not earn Q-Points or Q-Miles.

On aa.com, was able to find a FEW options in the $300 range:
All require a 3 night stay, all required departure on the first monday of March, April, November, or December. Unfortunately for me, I work for a school and can really only take extended weekday vacations on a scheduled school holiday....which each of these misses by a week or so.....but, still searching...

The problem I was trying to overcome was that I was already fairly locked into at least two weeks in Kona with freebie lodging at a resort (Xmas gift from parental units). And the scheduling for that time (back in mid-April) is already filling up, thus the loss of the fare on the day I inquired yesterday, but it's there for the next day. (I also have another scheduling problem in that I have to burn a resort week myself by May 3rd, and my bosses aren't going to be ecstatic with my being gone so much).

However, knowing that Oahu is so much smaller than the big island, and looking for a confluence of an alternate work schedule Friday off and a holiday Monday, I jump back to October, and can get the trip to Honolulu for four nights for the low 300's.

Unfortunately, the best option I see is IAD-DFW-LAX-HNL-LAX-DFW-IAD
which will score me 9925 miles (halved for Q-points, right?).

I suppose I can do a puddle jump sometime to somewhere to close it up. That will be cheaper. And by doing the gold challenge so late, it will count for all of 2007 too.

put on hold Nov 1 to Nov 9 though I do not like the 2 stops on the outbound leg. Travelocity has much nicer schedule available for the same price.

I have till tomorrow midnight to decide if I want it. We will be going to Hawaii in late May and not sure we should go again so soon in November, especially the flights are rather inconvenient.

That sounds good. You could then use your miles to upgrade to Hawaii. That upgrade from the east coast is one of the better uses of miles since it's the same 15k each way that it would cost to upgrade ORD-IND.

What you really need to do now is put every possible ticket you're thinking of buying on hold. Then you can sleep on it and decide which ticket to use tomorrow.

travelocity is still showing the fare, but when you go to book it it bumps it up to 900 instead of the 366. So my November trip went bye bye, but I am still going in July.

For those folks who prefer 13+ hours in 1st AA has a $1249 fare. You can stopover at LAX or SFO at no additional cost.

I think this is not bad considering 1st is usually $3k to $5k / person.

11 days have past! Not surprisingly, this fare is long, long gone.

AA had a 30 minute schedule change on their LAX-HNL evening flight. I was able to switch my mom's ticket to the exact flights she wanted when she's heading out over Memorial Day, even the return flight that had no changes. Thanks AA.
