Is there any way to bid on a suite only property, or specify a suite as the room... PL, Hotwire, etc?

Hotwire will tell you when it's a suite. Look for the suite amenity icon.

Is there any way to limit search to suites?

No, that isn't possible, but you might try specifying a higher occupancy on Hotwire (4 in a room) to force more beds and see if more suites come up as a result.

Sky auction is awesom. Just be careful of the taxes and surcharges they sometimes jack up the price to what you would normally pay.

Depending on when you go (if it isa non peak time) most hotels will allow you to upgrade to a suite at checkin (if they are available). This applies even if booked on a priceline rate. Just ask if you can upgrade to asuite at checkin.

We got an awesome 1br suite a the Gaylord Palms in MCO for $50/night above the $75/night priceline rate. Considering that the standard room rate was $225/night and the suites went for over $400/night, I was pretty happy.

I think you got lucky (or maybe you're not a minority woman like me)... I have tried this several times with PL rates and everyone has said, "Sorry, PL rates are not upgradeable. You will have to pay for the difference between the rooms, but since I don't know what you paid PL, we can't offer that to you either." ...?

It would seem totally counter-productive for a hotel to offer a discounted upgrade rate on a discounted P/L hotel rate.

Unless they can get an extra $50 out of you by upgrading you to a suite that would otherwise go empty.
