I want to reserve a Jaguar in Florida in April. In the Prestige level you can get a Jag x for $616 (five days) or an S for$674. The agent told me that the prices are based on demand and did not know which car is the upgrade X or S.

Any thoughts?

The X is the base model. It's essentially a jumped up Ford Taurus. Then comes the S, which isn't much better. If you want a "real" Jaguar, go for the XJ. Use HPC1 in the PC box and you should get a rate of $105 (I think) for the XJ per day. In my opinion, the Audi A6 and A8 are much better vehicles.

Thanks. I am switching to the S type. There are no XJ8's available in either Miami, West Palm or FLL. There are also no Audi's at this time.

I would agree heartedly with UAPremierflyer. The XJ8 is the _real_ Jaguar --the S-Type and X-Type are what you'd think more of as Ford's injection into Jaguar. With the S-Type being a class above the X-Type.

IMO the last refresh on the S-Type improved the car considerably. They cleaned up some of the Ford-ness (or should that be Lincoln-ness? ;)) in the interior, and there's some noticeable drivetrain improvements. It's not a bad drive, although like the Q45, its age tends to show when compared to something like the A6. The rear decklid's styling is a bit more generic now, too.

I think the X-Type is probably the worst value in Hertz's lineup. It's only $10-20 less than a S-Type or XJ8, but the car's MSRP is half that of its bigger brothers. It's not a terrible car (the Mondeo underpinnings are decent), but it should really be priced at the same level as an Infiniti G35 (H).

The Xtype is a piece of crap, read the ride reports in this forum.

I talked to Hertz and inquired why they did not have an X8J available in all of South Florida. I got an indirect reply which hinted that the best prestige cars were on hold until a week or two before rental so as not to attract discounters, discount codes, amex miles GC's etc. Those renters book months in advance.
True or false?

Both vehicles are Terrible. I mean TERRIBLE. For what you are paying you should try something else. Even the sporty cadillac is better.
