MilesBuzz! - United Premier Qualification

Does anyone have any idea as to whether United will lower its mileage requirements for Premier status, or extend the qualification period beyond December 31, 2001? It seems like United is just about the only big airline that is not doing something special to keep its most frequent flyers.
