Luxury Hotels - Is it tacky to make end-to-end reservations?

Here's the conundrum:
FS Hong Kong now has a weekend rate of HKD 2500 for a harbor view room. There is also a HKD500 hotel credit included in the rate. Additional night can be booked at the bed/breakfast rate of 3600 HKD, but no additional HKD500 credit.

Can my traveling companion book a friday night stay and I the saturday night? Doing so will save HKD1600 for the two-night stay?

So, is this a tacky practice or an acceptable one?

I don't think it's tacky at all, as long as one doesn't pretend to be "all-that" and snobbish.

Cheers!

But, are you willing to move rooms? The hotel might make you switch rooms. And what will you do between check out and (re)check in?

If a hotel made someone do that in the above mentioned scenario, I would consider the hotel to be tacky!

I don't think they would make you move rooms unless one rate was specifically for a better class of room than the other (and in that case, you could probably opt to just take both nights in the lesser room unless the hotel was sold out). But it certainly isn't tacky; I do it all the time for various reasons and I frequently see other people doing it, even at high-end properties.

I have done this at the FS before- no problem at all- if they considered it tacky they certainly did not indicate it was at all- should be fine.

Thanks for your opinions. Check-out time at the Four Seasons HK is 12 pm and the check-in time is 2pm. We usually live out of suitcases and it is not a problem if they ask us to move. It will give us a chance to try a different room any way. Thx again.

Just e-mail the hotel and tell them what you are doing...... They honestly will not care. I do this with the FS in London all the time.

I once had this kind of experience - although not at a FS hotel. (It was at the Granvia Hotel, Kyoto).

The hotel offered to move my luggage for me. So, on the morning of the day of the room change I packed my things and left them the door. I dropped off my key at the front desk in the morning, came back to the hotel after lunch and picked up a new key. All my stuff was waiting for me in the new room.

I was happy for the hotel to take care of things whilst I was doing some sight seeing in Kyoto. There was nothing embarrassing about it. I would do it again without hesitation.

I wouldn't think it was tacky. It could be a scheduling issue.

If the room type booked is exactly the same for both nights then, IMHO, I would definitely consider it poor service if a so-called "luxury hotel" asked me to move to an identical room.
