I wouldn't normally post this, as most members probably aren't interested in a Hostel type accomodation. However, it might have some appeal to the younger crowd or those on a tight budget. And since we now have this forum, I thought I'd share. :)

A bit of background, I'm going to Sydney next week, and was trying to find some reasonably priced accomodations. I always check Travelocity, as they often have some good prices, and since I've a Travelocity Preferred member, I can get an extra $10 off each booking.

When I sorted by price, I came up with a 2 star youth hotel/hostel. It came up for a single room for only $14.29. Now, with my discount, it's only $4.29 (Use promo code HTL10). I'm not sure if this fare is a mistake, as it's a single room that is the cheapest, and not a shared 6 person room. It does have a shared bathroom, however.

Book one night at a time to get the $10 off each stay. Very minimal taxes/fees so this won't effect much.

The normal rate for a single room is $37.61. They also have a free shuttle option from the airport (but not to), with 3 nights booking. I'm not clear if a Travelocity booking would quality, though.

You should link this thread in the budget travellers forum. For that price I should fly down to SYD :D

Can't vouch for accommodation since I haven't stayed there but the location is great. It well within walking distance to Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, Pitt Street Mall, Chinatown; heck, it's in the middle of everything.

If you're budget conscious, try the restaurant quality Chinese food courts in Chinatown/Haymarket.

Australia Day is Thursday, January 26, and there are a huge range of things to see and do, if you are here.
There is a lot of cultural variety, with performances of all kinds of arts around the city, including some major free concerts at the Domain, next to the CBD.
Note that the cost of the backpacker rooms art this hostel rises to US$49.64 if you are sharing with a friend ;)

If you want to catch up in Sydney, particularly around Circular Quay after 5PM this Monday-Wednesday, let me know!

I've stayed at the Maze and although you could only describe the single rooms as a 'prison cell,' the atmosphere of the hostel is nice, location central and it is certainly a good deal.

How do you become a Travelocity Preferred member then?

I think you can pay $30-$40 a year to get it. I guess I booked enough travel/hotels with them, and they just gave it to me.

I logged out of my account, and then tried using the code, and it seemed to work.

Base Backpackers is on Kent and is certianly top notch. New and modern; I would it is a hostel with Hilton style and class.

The Scary Canary Bar that is attached adds a lot.

As this is a hostel deal instead of a hotel deal & its targeted more for the budget travelers, I'm going to move this to the budget travel forum.

Please continue discussion there.

Thanks!

Oops! This should have been moved to BUDGET TRAVEL, not the BUDGET forum. Have requested a senior mod to move it for me.

Thanks!

If I recall, it was showing up from Jan 20th or so until Feb 3rd or 4th. Beyond that pricing went to normal.

I'm not sure if later dates are available, but just plug in a date and see what pricing you get.

Ended up booking a dorm for tomorrow night $10USD not too bad considering I paid 31AUD a night for Wake up this evening. And ended up getting a dorm full of loud Danish dudes. Hoping for a dorm full of lovely Swedes tomorrow ;)
