i like travelocity.com but i rarely book on that site, its useless to pay the $5.00 booking fee. i use that site to find which airline is giving the good deal then book on their site. im NW loyal right now, so i usually book on nwa.com. kayak.com and mobissmo are decent, havent really used them. check the sticky for some budget airline website links.

grbflyer gives good advice ^ If you read some of the stickies in the Mileage Run (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=372) forum, you will learn a lot about finding good fares. MRers use it to maximize miles / $, but you can use a lot of the tools to find lowest fares.

Also, some, though not all airlines post special fares on their website that are not accessible any other way. Taca Airlines (http://www.taca.com) comes to mind, but there are others.

Oh, the sticky that grbflyer refers to is at the top of BT of course.

Check:

http://www.wideroe.no/english

they have the "search for the lowest fare" option for any route you can imagine. ^
