Hilton HHonors - Airline Bump -> Free Room -> Qualifying Stay?

Have been bumped off three flights in the past three weeks.

All three times, have been given a free room at a Hilton. Have checked in with my HH Gold Card, been given all the normal amenities. HH Gold # on the receipt when I check out.

But none of the stays are showing up on hhonors.com under my account. Will I not receive a qualifying stay for these nights? If I should, any idea how to figure out how many HH points I'll get for the stays? (One night at LGW Hilton, two at Crystal City/DCA Hilton).

I tried a quick search on this topic, but didn't find anything.

Thanks!

If you did receive a stay credit, you'd receive points based off of the total folio rate - which would be whatever the hotel paid, plus any incidentals. That said, however, I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't receive stay credit, what with the caveats in the HHonors T&Cs (emphasis mine):

No point or stay credit, airline frequent flyer mileage credit or credit toward tier status will be awarded for wholesale/tour operator packages, contracted airline crew rates, travel industry rates (including but not limited to travel agent discount rates), complimentary or barter rooms, stays on NET Group, Series Group or IT Group rates, contracted Entertainment or Encore rates and stays using airline percent-off award certificates.

I could see a free room from a bump falling into any of those three categories.

I'd say the rule is for the stay not count as a qualifying stay as informed above. Eventually you might get one that makes it way to your account and is considered one - but that would be an exception.

Did you charge incidentals?

Even if the stay doesn't count, it should post. But making sure to charge incidentals to the folio ensures you will get some points for the stay posting your HH account, which then increases the chances of getting stay credit.

Been in this situation several times and have asked hotel staff if stay the qualifies...answer has been consistently "No, not at this special rate contracted by the airline."

But that doesn't prevent it from happening. Got full point credit for two rooms UA paid for us.

You're right. I wouldn't suggest not asking, even to the point of insisting that your account number is inserted into the record after the clerk tells you it doesn't qualify.

Look on the bright side: you weren't on Delta.

Because if you were, they'd have put you up at the Holiday Inn. :o  The one by the Atlanta airport is a real beauty, let me tell you...

great advice, although in retrospect, it may not help the OP, but at least when you do this you have something to point to when looking for credit.

I'm with Rut Dog. I'd charge *something* to the room. That might simply be a phone call. Then the folio won't show up as a zero charge and get ignored.

For those that did get credit, do you recall charging anything to the room?

There's nothing wrong with letting them know who's staying with them , but beyond letting them know they're taking care of a regular I wouldn't expect anything ....

We didn't, as we also had vouchers for meals from UA. Got points for both stays, but it did take a call to diamond desk.

My experience was when I got an American Airlines bump voucher and an overnight stay at the Embassy Suites near BWI last July. The airline was paying for the room, but I was responsible for incidentals. So I had a drink in the bar and charged it to my room.

And for the price of a gin & tonic I got a very small number of points, a stay credit and 500 AAdvantage miles.

I've been bumped and been placed in a hotel by an airline and I've always gotten a stay (diamond) benefits, stay credit, points, etc., with and without charging incidentals to my room.

I got bumped once in PVD and stayed at the Hampton Inn near the airport. Continental paid for my room and I did receive credit for the stay on my statement.

I was bumped at DEN and UA put me up at the Doubletree. When I checked in the clerk said I wouldn't get points and I asked her to humor me and enter my number. I did get the stay credit and airline miles without charging anything to my room.

YMMV

In OnQ, the Hilton front desk system, a rate plan can be flagged to not award points/stay credit. But if the clerk bringing you in doesn't use the proper rate -- for example, uses the generic "walk in negotiated rate" plan, to get you checked in quickly -- you'd probably get the credit. As others have said, definitely worth your time to get that number in there.

Ive done this twice, both times, I made sure to charge something to the room, both times I had to call the Diamond desk to get the charges that I added credited, both times, I then got stay & Night credit as well.

Of course, YMMV

I got room credit as non-qualifying night with 0 points @ OAK on Aloha bump. Probably should have charged the parking fee to the room in retrospect. Oh well...

Same happened to me in Memphis last summer compliments of NWA. I deliberately picked the Memphis Hilton and exceeded the voucher value for food in the hotel restaurant & charged it to the room on purpose so as to have a balance on the folio. Naturally, checked in w/ Diamond card too making sure it was noted on the folio.

Post-stay - no posting, no credit, no points, no stay so I called emailed HHonors guest services with the details explaining that I selected the Hilton when presented with a choice and felt entitled to at a minimum - the points. Magically - it was totally credited as a stay and got the points too.

Even on point stays - I usually try to manage to charge something to the folio so as to have a small balance which pretty much guarantees night/stay/point posting has been my strategy for the past few years.
