Does anyone know of any public parties this year for the SuperBowl? My buddy and I went last year for the first time and did not find any public parties, but ended up at Hooters and had a good time. We are looking for something a little more formally organized this year and are looking at making SuperBowl weekend an annual tradition.

Thanks in advance.

I am moving out to Las Vegas in 10 days, and I asked someone I know out there about the same thing. He told me that casinos used to throw super bowl parties, but the NFL told them that they could not use their product to sell food/alcohol. Then the casinos gave people the food/drink for free, but the NFL still squashed the parties because of the gambling association. I'm sure there are parties, but according to my friend, they are not as easy to find.

Yes, that is what my buddy and I experienced first hand last year. There seemed to be a lot of invite only type parties for elite members. These were quietly advertised as private parties for these members and they were paying for food and drinks, but NOT the opportunity to see the game, which just happen to be on.

Also, the ESPNZone was completely rented out for most of the weekend by Miller. Does anyone know how to get an invite to some of that party?

I am hoping that someone in this community knows of something we can do. We are not high-rollers, but are looking to have a good time and we enjoy sports.

Thanks again,

I wonder if by joining one of the casinos' players clubs you can, by now being a "member" get an invition to their parties. A couple of phone calls would get you the answer.

If you do try this, could you let us know by posting your results? I wonder if it would easier to get an invite to something thrown by a big players club (Caesars or Mirage) or a smaller one (like the Golden Nugget or Barbary Coast).

So who knew that according to NFL regulations, casinos may not use the 'SB' word in advertisements promoting parties, drawings, and events centered around the Super Bowl? They refer to it with some euphemism, typically "The Big Game." I never realized that!

Joining a players club will not get you an invitation, being an established player at given property will [possibly] get you and invitation. Being a member of a players club (such as Total Rewards) is equivalent to being a base member of a frequent flyer program (i.e. Delta Skymiles General Member).

BTW, Barbary Coast is now "Bill's Gamblin' Hall" and is owned by Harrah's.

Who says you can't speak the name of the Super Bowl? There. I said it. They should challenge this madness. For that matter, they should challenge the March Madness madness.

Further, the Sycuan indian casino (http://www.sycuan.com) in San Diego is sponsoring the Super Bowl of Poker. Certainly Binion's and now Harrah's has successfully held the World Series of Poker (http://www.worldseriesofpoker.com) for years now, although it is not clear whether or not Major League Baseball ever objected. The legal test is whether using someone's trademark creates a "likelihood of confusion." Nobody will confuse a Las Vegas casino with a football monopoly.

Somewhere I have a commemorative $5 chip that says the magic words. I asked the dealer if it was legal and he said it has been discontinued and I got it by mistake. I will keep it, especially since it's from the Tropicana and might not be cashable....
