Hilton HHonors - Hilton Gold thru CC; what's needed for Diamond?

To become Gold you need 16 stays/36 nights
To become Diamond it's 28 stays/60 nights

Suppose you become Gold not by the classic stay/night method, but some other way such as (in my case) with a Hilton Amex card.

Does such a Gold member get a "leg up" toward Diamond, or will he have to do the full 28 stays/60 nights in 12 months?

Thanks very much.

I thought you get Silver with the Amex card

How did you get gold?

I believe you still need the full number of stays for diamond.

Yes, $20,000 in a calendar year gets you Gold. Listed as a benefit at Amex's website on the Hilton page.

So get spending!

I believe you still need the full number of stays for diamond.I believe so, too, although I like the OP's thinking. If you earn Gold one way, why not be able to earn Diamond through the next level of stays -- i.e., 12 more stays or 24 more nights.

Save for the "dilution of benefits" argument (a decidedly one dimensional argument, IMHO) it would make some sense, although the whole rolling qualification time period vs. the Gold via Amex calendar year issue would be a confusing kink.

Meanwhile, toomanybooks I'd encourage you to e-mail gold@hilton.com and ask them your specific question. Getting a written response would be valuable.

I like that way of thinking also, but you do have the qualification time period issue. That's confusing enough as is, I shudder to think how it would be with that option.

If you do send an email, let us know their reply, please!

Well, I emailed HHonors and the answer is no "leg up" toward Diamond if you acquire Gold by a non-standard method. Got the following reply, in its entirety:

"Thank you for your e-mail.

We regret there is not an offer to upgrade to the Diamond status. The
requirement for diamond is 28 stays, 60 nights or 100,000 base points in a 12
month period. Base points are earned by 10 points per dollar on your room rate when staying at our hotels.

Best Regards,"
