I seem to recall that, at one time, if you flew into LGW in Envoy class, US would give you a free Gatwick Express ticket.
Am I thinking of another airline, or am I mis-remembering the whole thing?

There are old threads on the topic, but since you did not see those:
-Paid Envoy--receive Gatwick Exp FC ticket or chauffered car
-Award Envoy--Exp FC ticket
-Upgrade of any kind-nothing
Used both as recently as December 05.

Neither! It is US and you are correctly remembering the whole thing.

Am I to assume that we get Jack Squat?

Correct--it is all about the ORIGINALLY ticketed fare code. I, J, etc.
Quite rightly in my opinion, US will provide free transfers to London on GatwickExpress to paid-up business class pax: if you were upgraded, well done, but there is no reason to expect the same ground transportation perks as those who paid thousands of dollars for the privilege...

"B" tickets ain't exactly chump change.

and Y is not F. :DWell, there ain't no F on US Airbii, AFAIK. And if you play it right, J tix aren't "thousands" of dollars, either.
But in any event, the point is well taken.
Still, in the true FT spirit, I played dumb and emailed them. I'm sure they'll turn me down (and it isn't all that much money, anyhow), but you never know.

The ultimate decision is made by the Arrivals Lounge or Ticketing Office staff at LGW, so an email may not be what you are looking for as far as assurance or denial. They can be "talked" into it from what I have observed. The US staff there have a good amount of leeway on those sorts of things.
