Anyone ever done this? Looking to go mid March. Even if I get a hotel by GVA, I guess that wouldn't be the worst thing?

Have you not checked BiddingForTravel.com or (the friendlier but less extensive) BetterBidding.com? I did glance at B4T and found that there were a few hotels in GVA listed.

I have no use for Bidding for Travel. Their info has often been wrong and I think the woman who owns it has quite a bit to learn about clientele management. That said, I checked Better Bidding and didn't find information about the types of hotels and/or successful bidding strategies about Geneva. So I made a reservation through other means.

I'm still open to hear about anyone's experiences with Geneva. Thanks.

I still make good use of www.biddingfortravel.com but a lot of contributions seem to have dried up over the past few months there. Still, the hotel lists there are useful, even if not always the most current.

I got the 4 star airport Crowne Plaza for $85+taxes and fees through priceline in November. It wasn't too bad taking the train from the airport into town and getting the hotel shuttle from the terminal to the hotel. I don't think there is a 4 star offered downtown. I can't say the hotel was overly luxurious, but hotel prices in GVA are really high. I did take the taxi once into town, but forgot what it cost. It might have been 30 EUR. You can't really walk anywhere form the hotel itself.
I hope this helps!

You could walk from the hotel to the airport in about 15 minutes, but it's not a straightforward path for most people.

Apart from the public transportation options at the airport, there is also the #5 bus (http://www.tpg.ch/Cartographie/Schemas_lignes/decembre2005/l5.html), which leaves from the opposite side of the Palexpo exhibition hall (a 5 minute walk), every ~8 minutes, and gets to the main station in 17 minutes (http://www.tpg.ch/Horaires/Affiches/decembre2005/Ligne_05/05.pdf).

Taking a taxi into town is an expensive proposition (although CHF30 sounds more like it than €30), as the city government's anti-private vehicles policy (skateboarders get wider sidewalks, motorists lose a lane) have made traffic extremely bad for such a small city.

Rather callous of Priceline to include this hotel in 'Geneva' (their online map stops at the airport), as it is in France; besides, it goes for about $50 even without using Priceline. Keep in mind the standard Geneva transportation pass doesn't cover nearby France.
