After UA's ever so popular West Coast bonus, SPG is coming out with their version of the West Coast bonus:
"Earn up to 6,000 bonus Starpoints® for repeat stays at participating Westin, Sheraton, Four Points by Sheraton, Luxury Collection, St. Regis and W Hotels in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco and Sacramento.
Simply register and stay at one of the participating hotels now through April 30, 2006, and you’ll earn 1,000 Starpoints for your first stay, 2,000 for your second and 3,000 for your third stay — up to 6,000 bonus Starpoints."
You need to stay at the SAME hotel 3 times in order to get the full 6000 points. Here is the list of all participating hotels:
The Westin Seattle, Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers, W Seattle, The Westin Bellevue, The Westin Portland, Four Points by Sheraton Portland Downtown, Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel, The Westin San Francisco Airport, Sheraton Gateway San Francisco Airport Hotel, The Westin St. Francis, Palace Hotel, St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco, W San Francisco, W Silicon Valley and Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel.
I already have a reservation at one of these hotels, made it before 12/31/05 so I should get 500 points for this stay. I just registered for this new promotion, will it work without rebooking?? Can 500 points bonus be combined with this promotion?

2 properties that I stay at regularly are on the list, so the question is, will I earn the 6k bonus for repeat stays at each property separately? (In other words, can I earn 6k each for 3 stays at two of the properties on the list?)
Before the flamers light up, I'm not trying to scam the system. The t&cs don't limit it to a single bonus, but it does say up to 6k, so I'm just asking for a clarification.

My questions:
1. In the T&C, there are promo codes for each participating property. Do I need to do something other than just registering on-line? (Register for a specific property?? )
2. Will I earn 1,000 starpoints for my first stay (or 3,000 starpoints in total for two stays) even if I DO NOT complete three stays at the same participating property?
Thanks!

My questions:
not a life or death question but one would wonder if the promo is trageted at west coast hotels, why is it that some hotels are left out.
hotel in point: sheraton fisherman's wharf
Is the promo meant to target the more expensive properties only ???

William, could you answer this question please?
Are reservations made before you registered for a promotion eligible for the promotion?

I've sent this whole thread to Global Marketing Operations for clarification. We'll have to wait and see what they say, but usually it doesn't matter when you make the reservation except in the instance of web booking bonuses. Usually these things are added after the stay posts to your account in a sweep of the database.
More later as it becomes available.

If that were the case, I'm pretty sure that the Four Points in Portland would not be participating.
Hotels are solicited for participation. Some do, some don't, so I wouldn't read anything more into it than that. ;)

I've been trying to book the Sheraton Gateway Airport Hotel (SF) for January 20, but everytime I enter the YU9 promotional code, the top of the page tells me that that code is invalid. At the same time, it shows lots of rooms available. Does that mean there are no rooms available for the promotion on that date or is there just a problem with the code?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Thank you for your patience while I got some answers to some specific questions:
1. ARRIVAL date for eligible stays has to be between 04Jan06 and 30Apr06. Any stays with an arrival date outside the promotion period are not eligible.
2. Each property has their own registration code.
3. If you register online, your registration will be submitted for all 15 registration codes. Registrations will be reflected on the SPG account within 24 hours.
4. If you call in, you will have to provide each and every registration code or you can pick and choose based on which hotels you will be staying at. If later you should stay at another participating property which you didn't register for, you won't get the bonus.
5. Maximum of 6,000 bonus Starpoints per property.
Example: Member has a total of 6 stays spilt between 3 participating properties
1 stay at Westin Seattle = 1,000
2 stays at W Seattle = 1,000 + 2,000
3 stays at W San Francisco = 1,000 + 2,000 + 3,000
Total = 10,000
6. Members will receive the bonus after each qualifying stay through weekly sweeps.
7. Existing reservation will qualify, no need to rebook. See arrival date information above.
8. This can be combined with the Dec06 online booking bonus.
9. All SPG eligible rate plans qualify for the bonus.
10. This one is not targeted. Any SPG member may enroll.

William.....you just made my day.
Thanks for clearing up the rules for what could very well turn out to be a very "profitable" promo for me. ;)
IIRC, wasn't a "1-2-3" promo (or one very similar to it) made available last year....albeit with a shorter "promo period" (through the end of March?)?
I seem to remember earning 1000 bonus pts for a stay last February at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento.

Yes, Lurker, thanks for the clarifications. I hesitated to register for the promo at first, because I thought I was going to have to choose one particular hotel when registering.
I just registered online and I'll now earn bonuses with any of the participating hotels, it seems! ^

Why do people, sooner or later, always COMPLAIN about promos??? I just don't get it.
Furthermore, if you will be in LA for THREE MONTHS, you will earn PLENTY of Starpoints (assuming you break up your stays to be less than 30 days each).... and most likely (just a guess) at someone else's (i.e., employer's or client's) expense!!!

my complaint is related to the fact that spg is calling it a west coast promotion when it atcually is only half of the west coast.
besides, as you stated, i will still be getting points. it is just the fact that there is a promotion that is marketed deceptively at first glance that could make it more points.
and another point to make -- yes, it is on the client's budget. based upon your tone, you disapprove of this. whether or not this was your intent, it comes across that way. i woudl submit to you that without these travel perks, i would be very much disinclined to do the travel in the first place. i mean, i have to spend the entire week away from home and loved ones and also have to deal with all sorts of travel aggravation (such as having three canceled flights in the past two weeks) so there has to be some sort of benefit in it for me. getting travel points is not as glamourous as it seems. based on your profile as a frequent traveler, i am surprised at your implication

1. I don't think calling it a "West Coast Promotion" is in any way, shape, or form misleading. On the other hand, if the hotels were located in Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Reno.... well, yes, then that would be misleading. ;)
2. You are jumping to totally unfounded conclusions. I travelled on business (reimbursed by employers and clients) for 20+ years, and earned my share of miles, points, and status on other people's money! I do not disapprove of that at all. My disapproval is of the mentality displayed by the words "boo hiss" inappropriately applied. @:-) It's one thing to be disappointed with something, and quite another to ATTACK it. @:-)

I had a stay at the Westin SFO on 1/6.
So far, I have not received the 1000pt bonus for the first stay.
According to the T&Cs, it would seem that all "StarPoint earning" stays between 1/4 and 4/30 are eligible.
However, I didn't register for the promo until after credit for that stay had been posted to my SPG account.
Would registering after a stay has been posted negatively affect the stay's eligibility for this promo?
Or will it count as my 1st stay towards the 1-2-3 promo?
This is of some importance as I will be in the Bay area at least twice between now and the end of April.....and if my stay on 1/6 counts, then I would be much more inclined to stay at the Westin each time.......instead of at another hotel...... if doing so 2 additional times will result in a total of 6000 bonus StarPoints. ;)
