Emirates Skywards - Does Emirates have "Economy Plus"?

I'm a UA 1K flyer who needs to fly SFO-NBO. As no star alliance member flies to NBO, I'm looking into SFO-SIN on UA and then SIN-DXB-NBO on EK (UA has mileage deal with EK). I usually use my SWUs to upgrade on UA metal, so I'll be in economy on the EK segments.

Is EK economy tolerable? Do they have an "economy plus" section? Any advice would be helpful.

IMHO EK economy is very nice on all planes, but some people do not agree. The Boeing 777 (most likely the SIN-DXB flight but you can get on a 330) economy seating is cramped at 3x4x3 across, but is compensated by a 34" pitch. On the A330-200/A340-300 (DXB-NBO) there is a better 2x4x2 layout, but a less desirable 31" pitch. There is no E+ on EK planes.

Are you stopping over in SIN? If not, SFO-LHR-DXB-NBO might be less painful, unless you are doing it for the FF miles :)

Cheers

I am "Premier Executive" in Mileage Plus (for many years) and "Gold" in the Skywards program.

I learned it the hard way, when I started flying with Emirates: I was very surprised about the uncomfortable seating in economy, comparing it with Economy Plus on United.
Compared to other airlines (and UA economy seating in the back) the EK economy product is good.
I think Economy Plus is hard to find on any other airline (where you do not have to pay more as a premier member).

On the other hand you will get a much more better service and a much more better IFE than on UA.

This might make me unpopular in the Emirates forum (hehe :o ) but you might want to consider flying Qatar Airways. I have found their Y seating to be quite comfortable (32-33" - only 2 less than UA and nice and wide seats)

But then again - DOH is a nightmare, it might be best just to stick with EK

Cheers

Have you considered flying UA to Europe, and then using LH to get you from Europe to South Africa? I haven't checked, but I think you'll use many fewer miles this way. EK requires many miles!
